Nature is such a wonderful place! I would spend all my time in the outdoors if I could. There are so many interesting things to see and do.
One of my favorite places is the Arboretum. I like it because it is not too far from my home, and it is not too big. I don't feel like I could get lost as there are only 5 trails there. As of yet, I have not explored them all but can't wait until I do. I am really looking forward to taking the The Fern Garden Trail. It is only 329 feet long, and has 20 species of ferns that have been naturalized along the trail.
Another favorite thing about the Arboretum, is the bird observatory inside the Nature Cabin. It is a cozy room with a braided rug and chairs, and has a rustic feel about it. There's a huge window with a platform outside and many bird feeders and seeds are all around. Just beyond is a nice, quiet garden. I like all the little noises you can hear the birds making, like the pecking sound as they eat seeds. There is a hidden microphone somewhere. Many varieties of birds come and go. I love that room! You can also take a trail that leads right along to the Bird Sanctuary outside. I think this is my favorite place of all.
As I look through the brochure, I plan to watch for the following things next time we go: the field habitat; the forest habitat; and the aquatic habitat. I am also looking forward to investigating the The Frog Pond, which used to be a swimming pool.
There is a natural spring in the Springhouse, that I am planning to visit too. You can really drink from it!
