"Do you want to know...what goes on?"

Beta Beta chapter was established at Indiana State University, in Terre Haute, Indiana, in 1923. At that time, it was actually the Beta chapter. Therefore, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated was the FIRST black sorority on the campus of Indiana State University. Unfortunately, conditions were not condusive to having a black sorority. So, we came back in 1972 and chartered in our present form, Beta Beta. Since then, we have grown tremendously-- not only in number, but also in strength. We have always maintained the sorority motto of "Greater Service, Greater Progress" for the ISU campus and Terre Haute communities, although none of our members are natives of Terre Haute.

Here is a list of events that Beta Beta supports locally as well as nationally:

Community Outreach

• Breast Cancer Awareness
• Supporting the Charles T. Hyte Community Center
• Project Big Book Bag(collecting school supplies for the needy)
• Food Drives for Minority Charities
• Support at Nursing Homes
• March of Dimes Birth Defect Foundation
• Walk America
• Emancipation Walk

Those are just a few of the activities we sponsor. For a sorority with our membership, one can see why you have to be "elite" to be able to "hang." We are also known on this campus for being very active in unifying the ISU-PHC. At Indiana State, the greeks have seen bad times, and as a collective effort, the situation has improved. Currently, Indiana State has chapters of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.,Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.. Beta Beta has been on the forefront of those efforts with an all-sorority dinner (as part of our Week), and other events. It also shows through in the way we carry ourselves. It shows in the way we talk to ladies on campus; it'll be hard to catch a Lady of Rho putting down another organization. We don't need to put others down to make ourselves *seem* to be higher up. We are that confident in our qualities. Also, we make it a habit to mind our business. Like we say,

"The best business

In the line of business

Is to mind your business

And if you have NO business

Then the best business

Is to leave SIGMA business alone."
