As far as we can tell at this point in time, John (Fritz) came over from Germany.
with his parents and some other brothers and sisters in 1834 or 1835.
The German immigrants landed in Baltimore, Maryland, and made their way,
to Cincinnati, Ohio, by wagon and boat.
They tookthe canal as far as they could and then made their way west.
From Minster to buy land at St. Henry, Ohio. These Hemmelgarns arrived via Baltimore,
with the families of Huelsman, Bruns, etc. Fred married and setteled at Philothea, Ohio.
