Caswell Finley Maxwell Sr. is my oldest known ancestor. So far, I do not know where or when he was born, but I do know that he ended up in Washington County, Indiana. Recently at a family reunion, one of my relatives, a very nice lady, told us that Caswell walked from Kentucky to Indiana. In the 1820 census for Washington County, Indiana, it shows a Sele Maxwell who must have been a widow with children. Caswell was not of age when he married in 1829, so if we give him the age of 20, he would have been born around 1809. That would make him around the age of 11 for the 1820 census. Sele Maxwell had 1 male under the age of 10, and 2 males ten to fifteen. Caswell would fit into this group. There is no other Maxwell listed as living in Washington County in this census. Also their is a female listed as under ten, and a female listed between twenty-six and forty-four. This would be Sele. I think that he had a brother named Hiram as he is also around the same age. I found a marriage record for a Selah Maxwell who married a Duwalt Keller in Washington County, Indiana in 1824. I think Sele and Selah are the same person. On January 3, 1829, Caswell Maxwell and Abagail Cloud applied for a license to marry. Caswell having his mother's consent, his father being dead. Also, on March 2, 1826, Hiram Maxwell and Betsey Neidever were married with Hiram having his step-father's consent. This could be Dewalt Keller. Caswell Sr. and Abagail Cloud had two known sons. Silas Maxwell who was born in 1833, and Caswell Jr. who was born on June 5, 1835 in Washington County, Indiana near Salem. Also two brothers Thomas and John who I have no information about. This also came from the cousin. Also in the 1830 census for Washington County, Indiana it lists Caswell Sr. as under the age of 30 and one female between 20 and 30. It also lists one female under the age of five, and one female five to ten. I have no idea who these girls are. The girl under five could be a daughter since he was married in 1829, but I do not know who the other girl is. It does not list Silas or Caswell Jr. since they were born later. Caswell Maxwell Sr. died on April 5, 1836 his widow, Abagail, remarried in 1837 to a John Rogers. They had two children, John Rogers Jr. and Amanda Rogers. Silas is listed in the 1850 census as living with a family named Spurgin. In the 1860 census he is listed as living with Abagail Rogers, so Abagail must be a widow again.

Caswell Maxwell Jr. married Mary Myers on October 6, 1854 in Washington County, Indiana. Mary is the daughter of George and Elizabeth Myers. Caswell died in Montgomery County, Indiana on March 1, 1898.

Martha Anne Maxwell - b. 1861 at Marion County, Indiana. d. 1924. Married Charles Dawson. They didn't have any children.
Caswell Finley Maxwell III - b. 1863 at Marion County. d. 1864.
Ales Luther Maxwell - b. 1866. d. June 24, 1913 at Crawfordsville, Indiana Married Jessie May Hornaker
