The View From The Common Room Deck

As I sit here in the sun
I could almost drift to sleep.
It's so quiet, warm and peaceful.
I wish this feeling I could keep.

But though I relax completely,
My eyes I cannot close
For the view is far too beautiful
And I cannot therefore doze.

A view of complete tranquility,
Of lazy boats adrift on blue,
Of islands slumbering, fast asleep,
As if there's nothing else to do.

You'd think the whole world was at rest,
But that theory does the traffic wreck.
It's the only thing to mar the sight
And the view from the common room deck.
