Forgiven, Not Forgotten

I haven't thought of Lance for a while.
No surprises there.
Why think of one who hurt you
Or recall he didn't care.

But I thought of him today,
And I learnt something too.
I've forgiven Lance his actions,
Which I never thought I'd do.

Don't get me wrong, it's not all right,
the wounds still cause me pain.
But time brings understanding,
And helps the bitterness to wane.

I can't say that I like Lance,
Though I'm hoping that will come,
But staying mad is getting nowhere,
And it just seems rather dumb.

He's insensitive, I know,
But he never meant to be.
So I've forgiven and it feels good.
Yes, forgiveness set me free.

It's set me free to heal,
And to learn from his mistakes.
And I know that this is best,
For everybody's sakes.
