In Our Minds

What has happened to the days
When innocence so plainly shone?
Where did all the cynicism
And disbelief emerge from?

Now everything's got hidden meanings,
From a greeting to a rhyme.
From pleasure to pain,
Nothing stays simple over time.

Even the things we find
Strengthen our belief
That the world is a horrid place
And there is no relief,

Because it's in every little corner,
And in every single shape,
And though we try to lose it
We know there's no escape,

Because no matter where we run,
The danger always finds,
Even if we hide,
Because it's in our minds.
