as the story goes, these girls were to be taken to eventually wed chinese men in order to let their mother go free from a north korean labor camp. since the family was already poor & manourished, they couldn't afford to pay the hefty bribe north korean police demanded. according to a quote from The Washington Post story as referenced above, the north koreans really don't have anything left to give to get food.
"the price for a 'pretty North Korean miss' ranges from $800 to $1,150, depending on her age, looks and health." oh, yes. we wouldn't like your wife to be miserable AND emaciated. no, no. that would just be wrong & unfair.
quit the bullshit, people. i'm sorry, but you don't sell People because you're starving. excuse me, let me rephrase: you should not have to go to such extremes because you're being starved to death. you shouldn't have to wave goodbye to your little daughters because your wife was trying to get a bag of grain across the border. you know, i realize that the eastern countries don't share the same human rights policies or fundamentals as perhaps the United States, but you CANNOT say that taking someone's life, mercilessly ripping them away from her family without any choice is an acceptable policy.
