For the first time the so called ex-untouchables and other underprivileged folk of India are making use of computers to show they are as good as anyone else. Even in traditional, old societies computers are making an impact, note cyberpunks and other observers.
It is fifty years since India became independent. While things are changing for the better for the people traditionally at the bottom of the heap, so far there is little on the Web about the very poor, the so called outcastes or ex-untouchables of India. They account for over 7 per cent of the population of India -- that makes a lot.
Hopefully this page will make a beginning and present the scheduled castes of India in all their fierce pride and autonomous traditions. They are not a grey mass, but a variety of colourful and vibrant people.
