Hafren

Hafren, Hafren, afon mawredd,
Afon nerth a dŵr gogonedd,
Ar dy lan rhoer i mi gennad,
  I fyfyrio a syllu arnad.

Pan y cyfyd Haul y borau,
Pan fachluda y prydnawnau
Ar dy lan gad i mi rodio,
A neb yn meiddio fy ngofidio.

Yn dy glir don pan symudi,
Ca' fy ngwedd ei hadlewyrchu,
  Llwyd a gwan edrychaf arnad,
Er at bob dyn heb ddrwg fwriad.

John Davies (Siôn Gymro) 1804-84

Severn, Severn, river of majesty,
River of strength and water of glory,
On thy bank a mission is given to me,
To contemplate and gaze on thee.

When the morning Sun rises,
When the evenings wane
On thy bank let me roam,
And no-one dare to grieve me.

In thy clear wave when it moves,
I get my face reflected,
Gray and weak I look upon thee,
Though at every man without evil intention.
