Cristion/Gristion wyt ti'n gweled?

Christian dost thou see them?

Gristion! wyt ti'n gweled,
  Ar y sanctaidd dir,
Lluoedd Midian angrhed,
  Trais a gormes hir?
Gristion! ymarfoga
  Ystod gweddill oes,
Ymladd ac ymffrostia
  Yn yr Sanctaidd Groes.

Gristion! wyt ti'n teimlo
  Grym eu hymgyrch cudd:
Pechod yn dy hudo'n
  Wastad, nos a dydd?
Gristion! paid ag ofni
  Mwy eu twyll
      a'u braw,
Ympryd dwys a gweddi
  Yr y cwbl draw.

Gristion! wyt ti'n clywed,
  Eu hudolus iaith?
Ac mewn gweddi'n gwylied
  Eu bradwrus waith?
Gristion! ateb dithau
  "Caf,
      drwy weddi'r ffydd,
Goncwest ar ol brwydrau,
  Nerth yn ol y dydd."

"Da y gwn dy drallod,
  Ffyddlon was i mi,"
Medd yr Arglwydd uchod,
  "Felly teimlais I,
Poen fydd dy berffeithydd,
  Daw y dydd pan dry
Tristwch yn llawenydd
  Ger fy ngorsedd fry."

Cristion, wyt ti'n gweled,
  Ar y sanctaidd dir,
Lluoedd Midian angrhed,
  Yn eu gormes hir?
Cristion, ymarfoga
  Rhag pob clwyf a gloes,
Ymladd ac ymffrostia
  Yn y sanctaidd Groes.

Cristion, wyt ti'n teimlo
  Grym eu hymgyrch cudd:
Pechod yn dy hudo
  Byth bob nos a dydd?
Cristion, paid ag ofni
  Mwy eu twyll
      a'u braw,
Ympryd dwys a gweddi
  Yrr y gelyn draw.

Cristion, wyt ti'n clywed,
  Eu hudolus iaith?
"Ympryd, gweddi, gwylied -
  Onid blin y gwaith?"
Cristion, ateb dithau,
  "Caf,
      trwy weddi ffydd,
Heddwch ar ôl brwydrau -
  Nerth yn ôl y dydd."

"Da y gwn dy drallod,
  Ffyddlon was i mi;
Blin dy bererindod -
  Blinder gefais i;
Poen fydd dy berffeithydd,
  Daw y dydd i ben:
Tristwch dry'n llawenydd
  Wrth fy ngorsedd wen."

Tonau [6565D]:
Cranham (Gustav T Holst 1874-1934)
Gute Bäume Bringen (1692 Peter Sohren 1630-92)

Christian, art thou seeing,
  On the holy land,
The hosts of unbelieving Midian,
  Violence and long oppression?
Christian, arm thyself
During the rest of thy age,
Fight and make thy boast
  In the Holy Cross.

Christian, art thou feeling
The force of their hidden campaign:
Sin charming thee
  Constantly, night and day?
Christian, do not fear
  Any more their deception
      and their terror,
Fast intently and pray
  Drive the whole away.

Christian, art thou hearing,
  Their enchanting language?
And in prayer watching
  Their treacherous work?
Christian, respond thou
 "I shall get,
     through the prayer of faith,
Victory after battles,
  Strength after the day."

"Well I know thy trouble,
  Faithful servant to me,"
Says the Lord above,
  "Thus felt I,
Pain shall be thy perfecting,
The day shall come when sadness
Shall turn into joy
  Before my throne above."

Christian, art thou seeing,

  In their long oppression?
Christian, arm thyself
  Against every wound and anguish,
Fight and make thy boast

Christian, art thou feeling
The force of their hidden campaign:
Sin enchanting thee
  Forever night and day?
Christian, do not fear
  Any more their deception
      and their terror,
Fast intently and pray
  Drive the enemy away.

Christian, art thou hearing,
  Their boastful language?
"Fast, pray, watch -
  Is the work not wearying?"
Christian respond thou,
  "I shall get,
      though the prayer of faith,
Peace after battles -
  Strength after the day."

"Well I know thy trouble,
  Faithful servant to me;
Weary thy pilgrimage -
  Weariness got I;
Pain shall be thy perfecting,
The day shall come to fulfilment:
Sadness shall turn into joy
  At my white throne."
tr. 2016 Richard B Gillion
Christian, dost thou see them
  on the holy ground,
How the powers of darkness
  rage thy steps around?
Christian, up and smite them,
  counting gain but loss,
In the strength that cometh
  by the holy cross.

Christian, dost thou feel them,
  how they work within,
Striving, tempting, luring,
  goading into sin?
Christian, never tremble;
  never be
      downcast;
Gird thee for the battle,
  watch and pray and fast.

Christian, dost thou hear them,
  how they speak thee fair?
"Always fast and vigil?
  Always watch and prayer?"
Christian, answer boldly:
  "While I breathe
      I pray!"
Peace shall follow battle,
  night shall end in day.

"Well I know thy trouble,
  O my servant true;
Thou art very weary,
  I was weary, too;
But that toil shall make thee
  some day all Mine own,
At the end of sorrow
  shall be near my throne."
