Er i mi wneuthur drwg yn d'olwg di

(Erfyniad rhag gwrthgiliad)
Er i mi wneuthur drwg yn d'olwg di,
A llithro o fy lle,
    O madde' i mi;
  N'ād i mi fod mor ffol,
      a thynu'n ol yn awr,
  Trwy ofni llwybr llaith,
      y fordaith fawr.

Tyn arwydd cilio'n ol,
    o'm calon i,
A dal fi ddydd a nos, wrth d'achos di;
  Dal fi rhag troi fy nghefn,
      na myn'd drachefn o chwith,
  Rhag colli llwybrau'r plant,
      na myn'd o'u plith.
Edward Jones 1761-1836

(Petition against backsliding)
Despite my doing evil in thy sight,
And sliding from my place,
    O forgive me;
  Do not let me be so foolish,
      and draw back now,
  Through fearing the path of death,
      the great journey.

Take away any sign of retreating,
    from my heart,
And hold me day and night, in thy cause;
  Hold me against turning my back,
      or going back again either,
  From losing the children's path,
      or going from among them.
tr. 2016 Richard B Gillion
