Fel Abraham yn credu

Fel Abraham yn credu,
    dysg i mi felly fyw;
Yn llariaidd megys Moses,
    yn nhŷ daionus Duw;
  Yn ddiwair megys Joseph,
      yn harddu'th ffyrdd o hyd;
  Fel Job yn amyneddgar,
      heb alar am y byd.

Fel Enoch yn ddi-flino,
    gan deithio gydâ Duw;
Yn loyw fel Elias,
    dysg im' gyfaddas fyw;
  Fel Dafydd galon dyner,
      iawn dymmer yn dy dŷ;
  A'r Ioan amwyl hwnw,
      yn caru d'enw cu.

Trugarog yn dy hanfod,
    i'w 'nabod wyt i ni;
Trugarog wrth dy enw,
    hyd heddyw ydwyt ti;
  Trugarog a maddeugar,
      di-gymmar wyt i'w gael:
  Pan fyddom mewn caled,
      gwrandewi weddi wael.

Ti a wrandewi lefain
    y cywion cigfrain caeth;
Pan fyddo newyn arnynt,
    anfoni iddynt faeth:
  Ni chaiff cenawon llewod,
      hîr ddyoddef nychdod ddim;
  Clyw finnau'n gofyn cymmorth,
      Rho'r nefol ymborth im'.

O ochr Duw, a'i achos,
    dymunwn aros mwy,
A'm henw yn mysg y teulu
    heb eu anharddu hwy;
  Yn foddlon ac yn ystwyth,
      i ddwyn ei esmwyth iau;
  Ac felly hyd y diwedd,
      yn rhyfedd yn parhâu.

Yr ydwyf yma'n aml,
    mewn ardal sâl a sŷch,
Fel Agar, heb olygon,
    i wel'd y ffynnon wŷch,
  A hithau yn fy ymyl,
      drwy'r holl Efengyl fawr,
  A'i dyfroedd ataf etto,
      yn rhwydd ddylifo i lawr.

Hymnau ar Amryw Destynau ac Achosion 1820

[Mesur: 7676D]

Like Abraham believing,
    teach me thus to live;
Meek like Moses,
    in the beneficent house of God;
  Silent like Joseph,
      beautifying thy ways always;
  Like Job patient,
      without grieving for the world.

Like Enoch tireless,
    while travelling with God;
Bright like Elijah,
    teach me to live appropriately;
  Like David a tender heart,
      a right temper in thy house;
  And that beloved John,
      loving thy dear name.

Merciful in thy essence,
    to know thou art to us;
Merciful by thy name,
    until today art thou;
  Merciful and forgiving,
    incomparable are thou to be found:
  Whenever we be in hardship,
      listen thou to a poor prayer.

Thou who dost listen to the cry
    of the captive carrion crow's chicks;
When they are hungry,
    thou sendest them nutrition:
  The cubs of a lion do not have
      long to suffer any infirmity;
  Hear me also asking for help,
      "Give the heavenly sustenance to me."

On the side of God, and his cause,
    I would ask to stay evermore,
With my name amongst the family
    without spoiling their beauty;
  Content and pliable,
      to bear the easy yoke;
  And thus until the end,
      wonderfully to endure.

I am here often,
    in an area sick and dry,
Like Hagar, without vision,
    to see the brilliant well,
  And that at my side,
      through all the great Gospel,
  With its waters to me still,
      freely flowing down.
