Glanhâ dy eglwys Iesu mawr

(Gweddi am lanhad yr Eglwys)
Glanhâ dy Eglwys, Iesu mawr
  Ei grym yw bod yn lân;
Sancteiddia'i gweddi yn ei gwaith
  A phura hi'n y tân.

Na chaffed bwyso ar y byd
  Nac unrhyw fraich o gnawd:
Doed yn gyfoethog, doed yn gryf
  Drwy helpu'r gwan a'r tlawd.

Na thynned gwychder gwag y llawr
  Ei serch oddi ar y gwir;
Na chuddied addurniadau dyn
  Ddwyfoldeb d'eiriau pur.

Heb nawdd na nerth,
    ond tarian ffydd
  A chledd yr Ysbryd Glân,
Byth boed rhinweddau
    angau'r groes
  O'i chylch yn fur o dân.

(Prayer for cleansing of the Church)
Cleanse thy Church, great Jesus,
  Being holy is her power;
Sanctify her prayer in her work
  And purify her in the fire.

May she not lean upon the world
  Nor any arm of flesh:
May she become rich, may she become strong
  Through helping the weak and the poor.

Let not the empty brilliance of earth draw
  Her affection from the truth;
Let not the adornments of man hide
  The godliness of thy pure words.

With no refuge or strength,
    but the shield of faith
  And the sword of the Holy Spirit,
Forever may the merits of the
    death of the cross be
  Around her as a wall of fire.
tr. 2024 Richard B Gillion
