Mae afon angeu o fy mlaen

(Afon Angeu)
Mae afon angeu o fy mlaen,
Tywyllwch dudew drosti ymdaen:
  Rho im' oleuni, Iesu cu,
  Cyn 'r elwyf i'r tywyllwch du.

Mae sŵn ei thonnau oddidraw
Y llanw f'enaid gwan â braw;
  Pan fyddwy'n croesi'r afon hon,
  Gad i mi nofio brîg y dòn.

Uwchlaw ei thonnau dal fy mhen,
A gad im' weld y nefoedd wen;
  Nes colli f'ofnau oll i gyd
  Yn hyfryd fawl
      y nefol fyd.

Tôn [MH 8888]: Gweddi (alaw Gymreig)

(The River of Death)
The river of death is before me,
Thick black darkness shall spread over me:
  Give me light, dear Jesus,
  Before I go to the black darkness.

The sound of its waves from yonder are
Flooding my weak soul with terror;
  When I am crossing this river,
  Let me swim the crest of the wave.

Above its waves hold my head,
And let me see bright heaven;
  Until losing all my fears altogether
  In the delightful praise
      of the heavenly world.
