Mawr iawn fu'r gorfoledd

(Adgyfodiad Crist)
Mawr iawn fu'r gorfoledd
    pan gododd ein Ner,
Fe chwarddodd yr haulwen,
    fe ddawnsiodd y ser;
  Fe neidiodd mynyddau
      a bryniau fel wyn,
  Gorfoledd i'r Iesu
      gyfodi er ein mwyn.

Y gwragedd godasant
    i edrych y bedd,
I wel'd a gyfododd
    eu Harglwydd mewn hedd;
  Wrth edrych, ofnasant,
      nid oeddynt ond gwàn,
  Ni welsant eu Harglwydd,
      ond gwelsant y fàn.

Fe grynodd y ceidwaid,
    cwympasant i lawr,
P'odd gall'sent hwy edrych
    dysgleirdeb mor fawr.
  Y weithred oedd ynfyd,
      rhoi'i dynion mor wàn
  I rwystro Creawdwr
      y ddaear i'r làn.

Wel, saint, gorfoleddwch,
    fe gafodd y dydd,
Fe rwymwyd ei ddyndod,
    rho'i Dduwdod E'n rhydd:
  Mae'i saint ef yn dystion,
      gwirionedd mawr yw,
  I'n Harglwydd adgodi
      o farw yn fyw.

Cawn ninnau adgodi
    ar doriad y dydd,
Lladd ceidwad y carchar
    a'n gollwng yn rhydd;
  A'n cym'ryd i fynu
      o'r ddaear i'r ne',
  Yn ngolwg angylion,
      fel cafodd efe.
William Williams 1717-91

[Mesur: 11.11.11.11]

(The Resurrection of Christ)
Very great was the rejoicing
    when our Master arose,
The sun laughed,
    the stars danced;
  The mountains and hills
      leapt like lambs,
  Rejoicing that Jesus
      arose for our sake.

The women arose
    to look at the grave,
To see whether their Lord had
    arisen in peace;
  On looking, they feared,
      they were only weak,
  They did not seek their Lord,
      but they saw the place.

The guards trembled,
    they fell down,
However could they look upon
    radiance so great?
  The action was foolish,
      to set men so weak
  To prevent the Creator
      of the earth rising up.

Now, saints, rejoice,
    he gained the day,
His humanity was bound,
    his Divinity see him free:
  His saints are witnesses,
      great is the truth,
  That our Lord rose again
      from death alive.

We too may rise again
    at the break of day,
The Saviour slew the prison
    and set us free;
  And will take us up
      from the earth to heaven,
  In the sight of angels
      as he himself was.
