Nefol Dad mae eto'n nosi

Father in high heaven dwelling

(Emyn Hwyrol)
Nefol Dad,
    mae eto'n nosi,
Gwrando lef ein hwyrol weddi,
  Nid yw'r nos yn nos i ti;
Rhag ein blino gan ein hofnau,
Rhag pob niwed i'n heneidiau,
  Yn dy hedd, O cadw ni.

Cyn i'r caddug gau amdanom
Taena d'adain dyner drosom,
  Gyda thi tawelwch sydd;
Yn dy gariad mae ymgeledd,
Yn dy fynwes mae tangnefedd
  Wedi holl flinderau'r dydd.

Fel defnynnau'r gwlith ar flodau
O disgynned arnom ninnau
  Fendith dawel nefol fyd;
Caea di ein llygaid heno,
Wedi maddau ac anghofio
  Anwireddau'n hoes i gyd.

(Evening Hymn)
Heavenly Father,
    it is again becoming night,
Listen to the cry of our evening prayer,
  Night is not night to thee;
Lest we be wearied by our fears,
From every harm to our souls,
  In thy peace, O keep us.

Before the darkness close around us
Spread thy tender wings over us,
  With thee there is quietness;
In thy love there is help,
In thy bosom there is tranquility
  After all the afflictions of the day.

As the drops of dew upon flowers
O let the blessing of a quiet,
  Heavenly world descend upon us;
Close thou our eyes tonight,
Having forgiven and forgotten
  All the untruths of our lifetime.
tr. 2024 Richard B Gillion
(Evening Hymn)
Heavenly Father,
    night is falling,
Hear us in the twilight calling.
  Night is never night to Thee;
Lest our hearts be faint with fearing,
Lest our souls with ills be wearing,
  In Thy peace, O! let us be.

Ere the darkness close around us,
Spread Thy loving wing above us.
  For with Thee is calm for aye;
In Thy love is consolation,
In Thy bosom sweet affection,
  After all the cares of day.

As the dew drops on the flowers,
Pour on us, in gentle showers,
  Blessed peace from heavenly shore;
Close to-night our eyes in slumber,
Pardon and forget the number
  Of our sins forevermore.
tr. Cān a Mawl / Song and Praise 1918

Tune [887D]: Emlyn (Daniel Protheroe 1866-1934)

original English version:

Father,
    in high heaven dwelling,
May our evening song be telling
  Of thy mercy large and free;
Through the day thy love has fed us,
Through the day thy care has led us,
  With divinest charity.

This day's sins, O pardon, Saviour -
Evil thoughts, perverse behaviour,
  Envy, pride and vanity;
From the world, the flesh, deliver,
Save us now, and save us ever,
  O thou Lamb of Calvary!

From enticements of the devil,
From the might of spirits evil,
  Be our shield and panoply;
Let thy power this night defend us,
And a heavenly peace attend us,
  And angelic company.

While the night-dews are distilling,
Holy Ghost, each heart be filling
  With thine own serenity;
Softly let our eyes be closing,
Loving souls on thee reposing,
  Ever-blessed Trinity.
