Pan ymddangoso'r ddeddf i ddyn Mewn gŵg yn erbyn pechod, B'le try ei olwg, adyn prudd, Pob gobaith fydd yn darfod. Pan fyddo angeu ac uffern ddu O ddeutu yn ymosod, Mor brid fydd yr addewid dda, Yr Arglwydd a wna ddarbod. O! wele'r modd y brydiodd bron y patriarch tirion tadol, Heb wyro dim o'i ffyddlawn gred, Ond myned rhagddo'n wrol, - I offrwm Isaac, dinac daith, 'R hwn oedd ei obaith pena', Obledyg yr addewid dda, - Yr Arglwydd a ddarpara. O! gwel yr aberth rhwym o bell, A'r gyllell lem angeuol; Clyw'r hyfryd lais yn gwaeddi draw, Na wnaed dy law'n niwediol. Saif fy addeweid bur a'm barn Yn gadarn, a'm cyfamod; Ac fel y credaist mewn modd cry' Efelly gwna fi ddarbod. Edrychodd, wele o'r tu ol Yr hwrdd dewisol unig, Mewn d'rysni'n rhwym, yn aberth rhad, Yn lle'r had addawedig. Duw Iacob gynt, o dro i dro, Fu'n addo yn feunyddiol Anfon gwir Oen ei fynwes, hyd Pan ddaeth y pryd penodol. I Ioan rhoed, yn nyddiau ei gnawd, Amlygu'r dynsawd sanctaidd; Fe lefodd, Wele wir Oen Duw, Yr aberth gwiw nefolaidd. Y sanctaidd Oen, hyfrydwch Duw, Iawn boddlawn i'w gyfiawnder; Duw cadarn Israel iddo'n rhan, Ei hunan daeth mewn amser. I gwbl offrymu aberth llawn, Digonol iawn am bechod; A thrwy ei angeu yr aeth ef A'i achos i'r nef uchod. Yn llawen rhown, gan ddadgan clod, Ufudd-dod ewyllwysgar; Gan ddyrchu dwylaw tua'r nef, Bendithiwn ef am ddarpar.Dafydd Owen (Dewi Wyn o Eifion) 1784-1841 [Mesur: MS 8787] |
When the law appears to man In a frown against sin, Where he turns his view, sad wretch, Every hope vanishes. When death and black hell are About him attacking, How valuable shall be the good promise, The Lord shall provide. O see the way he redeemed completely The tender, fatherly patriarch, Without veering at all from his faithful belief, But went on bravely, - To offer Isaac, an unstinting journey, This was his chief hope, Because of the good promise, - The Lord shall provide. O see the sacrifice bound from afar, And the sharp deadly knife; Here the delightful voice shouting yonder, Let not thy hand do anything harmful. My pure promise and my judgment shall stand Firmly, and my covenant; And as thou didst believe so strongly Thus shall I provide. He looked, behold behind The chosen, lonely ram, In a tangle bound, as a free sacrifice, In place of the promised seed. The God of Jacob of old, from time to time, Did promise daily To send the true Lamb of his bosom, until The appointed time came. To John it was given, in the days of his flesh, To reveal the sacred person; He cried, Behold the true Lamb of God, The worthy heavenly sacrifice! The sacred Lamb, the delight of God, The true satisfaction of his righteousness; The firm God of Israel to him as a portion, He himself came in time. Completely to offer a full sacrifice, Very sufficient for sin; And through his death he took His cause to heaven above. Joyfully let us render, while declaring acclaim, Voluntary obedience; While raising hands towards heaven, Let us bless him for providing.tr. 2020 Richard B Gillion |
