Plant ydym ni ond codwn lef

We are but young yet we may sing

Plant ydym ni ond codwn lef,
  Mewn cân o fawl i Frenin nef;
Creawdwr mawr y tir a'r môr
  A'r ser uwchben
      yw'r Arglwydd Iôr.
Plant ydym ni, ond daeth i'n clyw,
  Yn moreu oes, efengyl Duw,
Ac os y trown glustfyddar draw,
  Yr ola dydd oer wylo ddaw!

Plant ydym ni, ein Ceidwad cu,
  O! tywys ni i'r nefoedd fry,
Yn ffordd y gwir, yn ngwanwyn oes,
  O! cadw ni, er pob rhyw loes:
Plant ydym ni, ond angeu sydd
  Yn gwywo plant bob nos a dydd;
Iôr, ceisio'th ras yn foreu wnawn,
  Yn Iesu Grist ein noddfa gawn.

Tôn [MHD 8888D]: Plant Ydym Ni
    (J H Roberts 1848-1924)

Children are we, but we raise our cry
  In a song of praise to heaven's King;
The great Creator of the land and the sea
  And the stars above
      is the Sovereign Lord.
Children are we, but to our ears came,
  In the morn of life, the gospel of God,
And if we turn a deaf ear yonder,
  The last day of cold weeping will come!

Children are we, our dear Saviour,
  O lead us to heaven up above!
In the way of truth, in the spring of life,
  O keep us, despite every kind of anguish!
Children are we, but death is
  Withering children night and day;
Lord, seek thy grace in the morn we shall,
  In Jesus Christ our refuge we find.
tr. 2023 Richard B Gillion
We are but young yet we may sing
The praises of our heav'nly King;
  He made the earth, the sea, the sky,
  And all the starry
      hosts on high.
We are but young - yet we have heard
  The Gospel news, the heav'nly word:
If we despise the only way,
  Dreadful will be the judgment day.

We are but young we need a guide,
Jesus, in thee we would confide;
  O lead us in the path of truth,
  Protect and bless us helpless youth.
We are but young - yet we must die,
  Perhaps our latter end is nigh;
Lord, may we early seek Thy grace,
  And find in Christ a hiding place.
