Rhagflaenor y Mesïa mawr A ddaeth fel seren bore wawr, A'i llewyrch disglair dros y tir Yn arwydd o'r Goleuni gwir. Ni chaed ymhlith holl ddynol-ryw Neb mwy nag Ioan, proffwyd Duw; Daeth i gyhoeddi teyrnas nef, A'r wlad a glybu'i uchel lef. Llawn ydoedd ef o'r Ysbryd Glân, A'i galon ddewr yn llosgi'n dân; Fe ddaeth yn nerth Elïas gynt, Yn ferthyr gwrol, ar ei hynt. Fe lefai yn yr anial maith  barnedigaeth yn ei iaith; A galwai'r genadwri fyw: "Yn wir nesaodd teyrnas Dduw." Y dyrfa, ar ei air a'i gri, A ddaeth i'w fedydd yn y lli; Yr Iesu glân ddaeth gyda hwy, A sanctaidd ydyw'r bedydd mwy. O Iesu, Brenin mawr y byd, I ti rhown foliant oll ynghyd; I'r Tad a'r Ysbryd gydag ef Dyrchafwn fythol lawen lef.David Lewis (Ap Ceredigion) 1870-1948

The forerunner of the great Messiah Came like a star of the morning dawn, And his shining radiance over the land As a sign of the true Light. Not to be found among all human-kind Is anyone greater than John, God's prophet; He came to announce the kingdom of heaven, And the land heard his loud cry. Full he was of the Holy Spirit, And his brave heart a burning fire; He came in the strength of former Elijah, As a brave martyr, on his course. He cried out in the vast desert With judgment in his language; And he called the living message: "Truly the kingdom of God has come near." The crowd, at his word and his cry, Came to be baptised in the flood; The holy Jesus came with them, And sacred is the baptism evermore. O Jesus, great King of the world, To thee we all render praise altogether; To the Father and the Spirit with him We raise an everlasting, joyful cry.tr. 2019 Richard B Gillion |
