'R wyf (f)innau'n filwr bychan

(Y Milwr Bychan)
'R wyf innau'n filwr bychan,
  Yn dysgu trin y cledd
I ymladd dros fy Arglwydd
  Yn ffyddlon hyd fy medd.
Pererin bychan ydwyf
  Yn cychwyn ar ei daith, -
O! arwain, Arglwydd grasol,
  Hyd dragwyddoldeb maith.

    Iesu cu, bydd gyda ni,
      Tra fôm yn y rhyfel;
    Heb yn cledd,
        canu wnawn mewn hedd
      Yn y nefoedd dawel.

A Christion bychan ydwyf
  Yn credu yn Iesu Grist;
Dod ras im, O! Waredwr,
  Rhag suddo i ofnau trist.
Mae 'nwylo bach yn weiniaid
  Ond dyro, Iesu cu,
Ryw waith, er gwanned ydynt,
  I'w wneuthur drosot Ti.

A phan fo'r rhyfel drosodd,
  A'm bywyd bach ar ben,
O! dwg fi adref, Arglwydd,
  I fro Caersalem wen;
Lle nid oes dim ond canu,
  Heb neb yn dwyn y cledd
A chware ar aur delynau,
  Mewn cariad pur a hedd.

Tôn [7676D+7686]: Y Milwr Bychan
  (Joseph Parry 1841-1903)

(The Little Soldier)
I am a little soldier,
  Learning to handle the sword
To fight for my Lord
  Faithfully as far as my grave.
A little pilgrim I shall be
  Starting on his journey, -
Oh, lead, gracious Lord,
  As far as a vast eternity!

    Dear Jesus, be with us,
      While we are in the battle;
    Without any sword,
        sing we will do in peace
      In the quiet heavens.

And a little Christian I shall be
  Believing in Jesus Christ;
Give grace to me, O Deliverer,
  From sinking into sad fears.
My small hands are servants
  But grant, dear Jesus,
Some time, despite how weak they are,
  Them to work for Thee.

And when the war be over,
  And my small life at an end,
Oh, lead me home, Lord,
  To the vale of bright Jerusalem!
Where there is nothing but singing,
  Without anyone bearing the sword
And playing on golden harps,
  In pure love and peace.
tr. 2015 Richard B Gillion
