Wrth weled Iesu ar y pren

(Marwolaeth, adgyfodiad, ac esgyniad Crist.)
Wrth weled Iesu ar y pren,
  Galarai merched
      Salem fawr!
Tywyllwch prudd orchuddiai'r nen!
  Gan dwrf disymwth crynai'r llawr!
Rhai dagrau llawn, rhown,
    rhown o fodd,
  Er mwyn y Gwr i'n deddfle gaed:
Defnynau fyrdd Ef trosom rho'dd,
  Defnynau fyrdd o burach gwaed.

IOR nef yn marw tros y byd,
  Pa gariad mawr! pa ofid yw!
Ond wele wawr gorhoenus bryd -
  Yr Iesu'n dod o'i fedd yn fyw!
Yr uchel Dduw sy'n gadaw'r bedd
  Yn nghanol hardd angelaidd lu,
Buddugol esgyn Brenin hedd,
  A bloedd a sain llawenydd fry.

Na wylwch saint! derchefwch Ef
  Sydd uwchlaw pawb - eich gwared wnaeth:
Anrheithiodd nerthoedd uffern gref,
  Gan ddwyn y gwrthfil angau'n gaeth!
Byw fyddo'r Brenin bythol fawr,
  A aned yn Adferwr hedd!
Dy golyn, angau, b'le mae'n awr?
  Y fuddugoliaeth arnat, fedd?
derchefwch :: dyrchefwch
b'le mae'n awr? :: mae yn awr?
Y fuddugoliaeth arnat :: A mae dy fuddugoliaeth

Tôn [MHD 8888D]: Yarmouth (<1835)

(The death, resurrection and ascension of Christ.)
On seeing Jesus on the cross,
  The daughters of great Jerusalem
      would lament!
Sad darkness would cover the sky!
  While a sudden din would shake the ground!
Some full tears, let us give,
    let us give voluntarily,
  For the Man to get our sentence:
A myriad droplets He for us gave,
  A myriad droplets of purer blood.

The Lord of heaven dying for the world,
  What great love! what grief it is!
But see the dawn of a rapturous time -
  Jesus coming from his grave alive!
The high God who is leaving the grave
  Amidst a beautiful angelic host,
The victorious ascent of the King of peace,
  With a shout and a jubilation above.

Weep not ye saints! exalt Him
  Who is above all - deliver you he did:
He plundered the powers of strong hell,
  While taking the opponent death captive!
Live shall the great, everlasting King,
  Who was born as a Restorer of peace!
Thy sting, death, where is it now?
  Thy victory, grave?
::
where is it now? :: is it now?
Thy victory :: And is thy victory

tr. 2015 Richard B Gillion
