Deffrowch eneidiau gwan/llesg deffrowch

Awake our souls away our fears

(Yr yrfa Grist'nogol)
Deffrowch eneidiau llesg, deffrowch,
Pob meddwl ofnus ymaith rho'wch;
  Rhedwch yr yrfa tua'r nef,
  Trwy gym'ryd ffydd a chalon gref.

Ffordd gul a dreiniog yw'n ddiau,
Ac ysbryd dynion sy'n llesgâu;
  Ond y Duw mawr, ei anghofio maent,
  Sydd yn chwanegu nerth y saint.

Nerth mawr yr hollalluog Dduw
Newydd o hyd ac ieuangc yw,
  Lleihau na darfod byth ni wna,
  I drag'wyddoldeb y parha.

Efe wy'r Ffynnon loyw ffrwd-lawn,
Ac yfed byth o honi cawn;
  Pan drengo rhei'ny bob yr un
  Sy'n pwyso ar eu nerth eu hun.

Chwyrn fel eryrod ieuaingc hy,
Ni hedwn tua'th drigfan fry,
  Ar aden cariad gadarn gref,
  Heb flino yn y ffordd i'r nef.

(Gyrfa y nef)

Deffrowch eneidiau llesg, deffrowch,
Pob meddwl ofnus ymaith rho'wch;
  Rhedwch yr yrfa tua'r nef,
  Trwy gym'ryd ffydd a chalon gref.

Ffordd gul a draeniog yw'n ddiau,
Ac ysbryd dynion sy'n llesgâu;
  Wrth ofni'n wan anghofio maent,
  Fod Duw'n chwanegu
      nerth y saint.

Nerth gras ein Duw
    o hyd barhâ,
Lleihau na darfod byth ni wna;
  Am hyn, drwy ffydd, ar aden gref,
  Ehedwn yn y ffordd tua'r nef.

Tôn [MH 8888]: Constance (Claude Goudimel 1510-72)

(The Christian Course)
Awake ye feeble souls, awake,
Every fearful thought put away;
  Run the course towards heaven,
  Through taking faith and a strong heart.

A narrow and thorny road it is doubtless,
And the spirit of men is fainting;
  But the great God, forgetting him they are,
  Who increases the strength of the saints.

The great strength of the almighty God
Alway new and young it is,
  Diminish or vanish it never shall,
  To an eternity it shall endure.

He is the fully-streaming, clear fount,
And drink forever from this we may;
  When those, every one, perish
  Who lean on their own strength.

Whirling like bold, young eagles,
We shall fly towards thy dwelling above,
  On a wing of firm, strong love,
  Without wearying on the way to heaven.

(The course of heaven)

Awake ye feeble souls, awake,
Every fearful thought put away;
  Run the course towards heaven,
  Through taking faith and a strong heart.

A narrow and thorny road it is doubtless,
And the spirit of men is fainting;
  While fearing weakly they are forgetting,
  That God is increasing
      the strength of the saints.

The strength of the grace
    of our God still endures,
Diminish or vanish it never shall,
  Therefore, through faith, on a strong wing,
  Let us fly on the way towards heaven.

tr. 2016 Richard B Gillion

Awake, our souls; away, our fears,
  Let every trembling thought be gone;
Awake, and run the heavenly race,
  And put a cheerful courage on.

True, 'tis a strait and thorny road,
  And mortal spirits tire and faint;
But they forget the mighty God,
  That feeds the strength of every saint.

Thee, mighty God! whose matchless power
  Is ever new, and ever young;
And firm endures, while endless years
  Their everlasting circles run.

From Thee, the overflowing spring,
  Our souls shall drink a fresh supply;
While such as trust their native strength
  Shall melt away, and droop, and die.

Swift as an eagle cuts the air,
  We'll mount aloft to Thine abode;
On wings of love our souls shall fly,
  Nor tire amidst the heav'nly road.
