Deffrown a seiniwn newydd gân

(Genedigaeth Crist)
Deffrown a seiniwn newydd gân
  I'n Ceidwad mawr ei fri,
Wrth inni gofio'r bore glân
  Pan ddaeth i'n daear ni;
Rhyw angel da a seiniai'r dôn
  O fewn i'r Wynfa wen;
Ymlaen o gylch i gylch âi'r sôn
  Drwy holl delynau'r nen.

Uwch, uwch o hyd y chwyddai'r gân,
  Y mawl a lanwai'r lle;
Cân newydd oedd; O! ganu pêr;
  Ai'n fwy na llond y lle.
I lawr trwy byrth y nef y daeth,
  Yn rhyw ryferthwy mawr;
Ac engyl ddoent, mewn llawen floedd
  A'r newydd yma i lawr.

Tôn [MCD 8686D]: St Matthew (William Croft 1677-1727)

(The Birth of Christ)
Let us wake up and sound a new song
  To our Saviour of great renown,
As we remember the holy morning
  When he came to our earth;
Some good angel would sound the tune
  Within the bright Paradise;
Forward from circle to circle went the sound
  Through all the harps of the sky.

Higher, still higher would swell the song,
  The praise would fill the place;
A new song it was; Oh sweet singing!
  Which would more than fill the place.
Down through the portals of heaven it came,
  As some great wonder;
And angels would bring, in a joyful shout
  The news down here.
tr. 2016 Richard B Gillion
