Eneidiau ffol camsyniol sy'

Deluded souls that dream of heav'n

(Ffydd fywiol a marwol wedi
ei chasglu o amryw Ysgrythyrau)
Eneidiau ffol camsyniol sy'
'N breuddwydio am y nefoedd fry,
  A bostio'r cyssur
      maent yn gael,
  Tra b'ont yn gaeth
      i'w chwantau gwael.

Ein bost a'n tybiau'n
    ofer fydd,
O's oer a marw yw ein ffydd;
  'Does dim ond bywiol ffydd o'r nen
  A'n huna â Christ ein bywiol Ben.

Ffydd a dry'r galon fod yn dda,
A ffydd trwy gariad gweithio wna;
  Ffydd ymlid pob gysuron gau,
  A chodi'n serch
      i'r nef y mae.

Ffydd sy'n gorchfygu'r
    fall a'r byd,
Trwy nefol allu ar bob pryd;
  Hon ydyw'r gras gwrol gamp mawr,
  A lwydda yn yr olaf awr.

Ffydd i air Duw sy'n ufuddhau,
Fel yn ei ras ymddiried mae;
  Wrth faddeu o hyd, ein grasol Dduw
  Eiddigus o'i sancteiderwydd yw.

Oddiwrth y felldith o's rhyddha,
Ein natur affan fe'i glanha;
  Mab Duw ni ddaeth
      i'r Ddaear las
  Fod yn weinidog pechod cas.

Ei Yspryd ef sy'n ein glanhau,
A selio'n hedd a Duw y mae;
  Daeth Iesu a'i iechydwriaeth rad
  I ni fel hyn trwy ddw'r a gwa'd.

Gwelir: Ein gwaith a'n tybiau'n ofer fydd

(Faith living and dead having been
collected from various Scriptures)
Foolish, mistaken souls are they
Dreaming about heaven above,
  And boasting of the comfort
      they are getting,
  While they be captive
      to their base lusts.

Our boast and our suppositions
    shall be vain,
If cold and dead is our faith;
  There is only lively faith from heaven
  Shall sleep with Christ our lively Head.

Faith that shall turn the heart to be good,
And faith through love shall work;
  Faith shall chase all false comforts,
  And raising our affection
      to heaven it is.

Faith that is overcoming the
    devil and the world,
Through heavenly power at every time;
  This is the great, brave struggle,
  That shall succeed at the last hour.

Faith to the word of God is obedient,
As in his grace trusting it is;
  While always forgiving, our gracious God
  Jealous of his holiness he is.

From the curse if he frees,
Our unclean nature he will cleanse;
  The Son of God came not
      to the blue-green earth
  To be the minister of hated sin.

His Spirit it is who is cleansing us,
And sealing our peace with God he is;
  Jesus brought his free salvation
  To us thus through water and blood.
tr. 2017 Richard B Gillion
("Faith without works is dead.")

Deluded souls, that dream of heav'n,
  And make their empty boast
Of inward joys,
    and sins forgiv'n,
  While they are
      slaves to lust!

Vain are our fancies,
    airy flights,
  If faith be cold and dead;
None but a living power unites
  To Christ, the living Head:

A faith that changes all the heart;
  A faith that works by love;
That bids all sinful joys depart,
  And lifts the
    thoughts above.

'Tis faith that conquers
    earth and hell,
  By an almighty power:
This is the grace that shall prevail
  In the decisive hour.

Faith must obey her Father's will,
  As well as trust His grace:
A pard'ning God requires us still
  To perfect holiness.

God from the curse has set us free
  To make us pure within;
Nor did he send
    his Son to be
  The minister of sin.

The faith which new-creates the heart,
  And works by active love,
Will bid all sinful joys depart,
  And lift the thoughts above.
Isaac Watts 1674-1748
