~ Chapter 1~
" Ali is practice at your house tonight?" Renee said.
" Um . . . yeah. 6:00, you game?" Ali replied. (*Whenever you see something written in parenthesis, like this, it means it’s an authors note to the reader J Enjoy!J )
"You betcha!" Renee, Ali’s best friend said cheerfully.
" Wow, you’re in a good mood!"
Renee and Ali were on their way to their next class, Science. The class they both hated. Renee answered,
" I am in an awesome mood because one, I finished writing the ending for ‘Teenage Superhero’, and two, I got an inspiration for a new song called ‘Something Strange’. I’ll sing it for you later. Right now, it’s naptime."
Ali giggled, and they walked into the classroom to prepare themselves for a 50- minute lecture on formulas and chemicals, but next week they wouldn’t have to worry about boring classes because they will be on Spring Break! Ali and Renee both laid their heads down and sighed, both of them thinking of what they would do on their break.
Renee was almost asleep when the bell rang. It startled her so much that she jumped up, her palms sweaty.
"Damnit! I’ve got to learn how to stay awake!" she whispered.
"What?" Ali asked overhearing her.
"Oh nothing, but Ali what is today? I forgot!"
"I think it’s February 6, 1997." She answered.
"Well, thanks for the full detailed date description Ali," Renee laughed as they both walked to their next class.
They were both in eighth grade going in ninth. They couldn’t wait till ninth grade because they would be going to different schools. They have been to the school they are at now for 8 years. They were ready for a change.
"Hey guys! You coming to Katey’s party tomorrow night?" Annie, Ali’s twin sister, and Katey’s best friend asked running up to them.
"You already know my answer. If you go, I have to go," Ali mumbled to Annie. They basically have to do everything together. Annie gave Ali a weird look and turned towards Renee for her answer.
"Sure. I’ll be there. Hey we could really use some practice too! So bring your instruments. Is it a sleep over?" Renee asked.
Katey walked up, with her faded blue streaked, dark, brown hair (*because you could get expelled for having your hair dyed any color except the basics. So the girls could never permanently dye their hair blue, purple or green, they had to use the wash out stuff.) Katey said,
"Um, yeah, it’s my 14th birthday sleepover party! It’ll kick, and I agree we should practice because we can’t forget that we have a gig Monday at Mom’s Music."(*Renee is already 14, she’s the oldest of the group, and Ali and Annie were going to turn 14 soon.)
"Yeah, that’s cool. We’ll rock the joint!" Renee laughed.
The second bell rang warning them that they better get to their next class.
"Bye guys!" they all said to each other.
The rest of the day went pretty smoothly, and all four girls were gathered at Ali and Annie’s house for practice.
"Okay, lets play ‘Teenage Superhero’ now. Ready?" Renee the lead guitarist of the band, and one of the lead singers asked. Most of the time Annie or Renee would sing.
"Hold on!" Ali yelled, running to get a Jolly Rancher, her favorite candy. Renee sat there holding her purple Fender guitar, followed by Katey who had put her bass guitar down to get Ali to come back. All four of them had been together in a band for about a year now, and were really good because they worked so hard at it.
Annie, who had a red Fender guitar yelled, "Ali, get your ass in here now!"
Katey came back with a cherry Jolly Rancher in her mouth and picked up her guitar. She sat on her amp, and Ali came back,
"Here I am!" she sat behind her Pearl drum set that had their band logo on the bass drum (* for the intelligently challenged, the biggest drum that u play with your foot, and it makes a deep noise). Ali had a green apple Jolly Rancher in her mouth because we all could smell it!
Renee impatiently said, "Are you ready now?!"
Everyone nodded.
This was Renee’s song. She yelled, "a 1, a 2, a 1 2 3 4!" and they started playing the intro as Renee jumped and sang,
"I’m a teenage superhero, which can be tough,
Mutant creatures, evil villains, enough is enough!
This requires strength and responsibility,
I ignore them; there would be chaos without me.
Teenage heroes, like me, know it’s not so easy,
We face peer pressure everyday, you see
We ignore them offers to drugs almost for no pay,
When school is over, ignore them, just runaway.
They can’t hurt you if you are a superhero,
Inside everyone is, yes you are one too.
Born with the power to fight day and night,
Use your superpowers with all your strength and might.
Don’t worry about those tacky costumes and boots,
And there’s definitely no time for those blue and red suits.
Just test your super powers on the school bully,
Don’t worry he won’t bother you again, trust me.
All you need is confidence to make it in life,
Use your knowledge to do it, not a gun or a knife.
Your life is always worth more than having nothing,
Violence definitely doesn’t solve anything.
I’m a teenage superhero, which can be tough,
Mutant creatures, evil villains, enough is enough!
This requires speed and responsibility,
There would be school chaos if it weren’t for me.
I face peer pressure everyday, you see,
Teenage heroes, like me, know it’s not so easy.
We ignore offers to drugs for almost no pay,
When school is over, ignore them, just runaway.
They won’t hurt you if you are a superhero,
It won’t be easy, but you can be one too."
The song ended with silence.
"Man Renee! That literally kicked ass! Should we play that song on Monday?" Katey asked breaking the silence.
"Thanks Kate, and I think we should, don’t you guys?" Renee added sitting on a stool.
"I vote that we should!" Ali said crunching her Jolly Rancher, with pride, at the same time.
"Yeah, me too!" Annie agreed.
"Okay, tomorrow we’ll practice ‘Teenage Superhero’, the ‘Adam Song’, and ‘Different Endings’ for Monday. How’s that sound?" Renee asked putting her guitar away (Renee was the one who always planned or organized things. She was the bands "Neat Freak".) As Katey’s mom pulled up.
"Groovy tunes! I gotta go guys. I’ll see you tomorrow at 5:30, okay?" Katey said as she put her bass guitar away, and walked out the door.
"Yeah, that sounds good. We’ll play those songs." Annie agreed.
Annie and Renee put their guitars in their cases while Ali sat their behind her drum set, still, and played some weird beats and rhythms for fun. Ali usually doesn’t put her drum set away because it’s to hard to put together and take apart. So she usually only takes it apart when she’s going somewhere.
"I’m glad we finally chose Far From Reality as our band name. I think that is so cool!" Renee said trying to start a conversation, but her mom pulled up.
Ali and Annie nodded.
"Damn! Bye gals! See you tomorrow!" she waved to them, picking up her guitar case.
They both waved back and said goodbye.
