~ Chapter 5 ~

Chris and Andrew left around midnight, the night before. So Renee and Ali, with their color streaked hair woke up about 9:30 that Tuesday morning.

"Andrew is sooooo awesome! He gave me his phone # last night! I don’t know if we’re gonna go out or not. How ‘bout you?" Ali asked making the extra bed that was in Renee’s room.

"Well, Chris, I know from experience (*and practice! LOL!), that he is a great kisser, but all he left was his phone #. So I guess we’re not going out either, but that’s sort of okay b/c I don’t know if I really want a boyfriend right now." Renee explained to Ali while making her own bed.

"Hey, you wanna go to the mall today?" Ali suggested.

"That sounds cool! Call your mom and tell Annie. Call Katey too, and tell them that we’re going to the mall at 1:30. Oh yeah! See if Katey’s mom could pick us up. I’ll be in the shower." Renee yelled from the bathroom.

Ali called everyone and made the arrangements while Renee took her shower.

When Renee walked out of the bathroom her hair was wet, and she was wearing baggy, khaki cords and a brown, light brown and tan-stripped shirt with her silver, ball chained necklace. She walked into her brightly colored bedroom where Ali was getting out some clothes from her bag.

"Your turn!" Renee said putting in her nose ring and all her other earrings.

"Ok, I’m in! Everyone can come and Katey and her mom are going to pick us up at 1:15." Ali said walking into the bathroom and closing the door. While Ali was taking her shower Renee blow-dried and brushed her hair. She decided to leave it straight down, parted in the middle, with light, tinted, plum purple streaks.

Soon Ali was done and she came into the bedroom. She was wearing a Curious George (*you know that cute little monkey!) t-shirt, baggy jeans, black Airwalks, and a hemp necklace. Ali also dried her long blond hair, but she put her hair in two buns on the sides of her head with a scrunchy that was made of green hair (*fake, of course. You know those scrunchies you can buy in AfterThoughts or Claire’s, in the mall) so it would look like it was real. Both Renee and Ali looked each other over making sure they looked all right.

Soon Katey and her mom picked them up. They got into the backseat. Katey was sitting in the front seat. She had reapplied the blue streaks to her hair, because they were bright and they looked like they had been just put in. She was wearing black cords, a red t-shirt that had the band No Doubt on it (*if you don’t know who No Doubt is, well, I’m not even gonna go there! If you don’t know who they are, you suck!), green Airwalks, and her wallet chain. Out of all four of them Katey was the most laid back and "chilled" type person. She turned around in her seat and said,

" We are going to pick up Annie next. What mall are we going to?"

"Um, lets go to River Falls Mall in Clarksville, IN. It’s the closest, plus that’s where all the "preps" hang out and we can scare them again! Hehe!" Renee suggested putting on her dark plum purple lipstick in the mirror.

"Yeah! We always scare them!" Ali said making an evil face.

They all giggled.

The car stopped in front of Annie and Ali’s house (*they’re twins, therefore they live in the same house) and Katey’s mom honked the horn.

Annie came out of the house running towards the car. She was wearing her hair in braids (*as usual), except this time some of her braids were streaked black and silver and some were plain. She had on a long sleeved purple shirt, black, purple, and white JnCo’s and her navy Vans. She jumped into the car and Katey’s mom drove away.

"You look cool today," Renee complimented to Annie.

"Thanks! I try to make a lasting impression on everyone!" They all laughed and Ali added,

"I don’t think that’ll be a problem!"

Annie elbowed her sister and they all laughed again.

Katey’s mom pulled up to the entrance of the mall.

"Okay, should I pick you up, say around 4:30 or 5:00?"

"Sounds good!" Renee agreed.

"Peachy keen mom! See ya later!" Katey said getting out of the car, the rest of the girls following.

Katey’s mom drove away and the girls walked inside. All they were there to see was the music stores, the candy shops, and the only "non-preppy" clothing store in that mall, Razz Matazz. They started walking towards the candy store, Mr. Bulkey’s, when Annie said,

"Hold on, I want to put on this lipstick." She put the black lipstick on and they continued. After that they all now looked cool, and people, mostly "preps", began to stare.

On their way in the candy store, they passed The Gap (*in my town, it’s a major prep station!) A couple of preppy girls wearing flares, of course, stared at them funnily. This pissed Renee off completely and she gave them the finger. The preps just rolled their eyes. Everyone laughed and they walked into Mr. Bulkey’s.

"I’m going to get some Skittles!" Renee gushed (*those are her absolute fave candy that she cannot do without!)

Ali, of course, got some more Jolly Ranchers. She usually finishes one of those bags (*that have like 50 in them) in one day!

"Hey, lets go to Razz Matazz now!" Annie suggested.

They walked to Razz Matazz, and there was a sign that said, ‘Tongue piercing, ½ price! Today only!’ That immediately caught their attention, especially Ali’s.

She got an evil grin on her face. "HeHeHe!" she smiled, "I’m doing it!"

"Go for it!" Katey encouraged nudging Ali towards the store.

"Rock on Ali!" Renee yelled.

Annie, of course, had to add, "Ali, you know this is gonna hurt and what would mom say?"

"Listen Annie! It’s time for me to be rebellious! I’m doing it, and you’re not going to stop me!" Ali turned her back on her sister, and walked in, followed by Renee.

Annie wouldn’t even go in b/c she was mad that Ali is doing something that she doesn’t want to do even though she has her eyebrow peirced, and Ali only had her ears peirced (*in lamest terms, she was jealous.) So Katey stayed with her.

In a couple of minutes Ali and Renee walked out of Razz Matazz. Ali was smiling with her mouth closed.

Ali stuck her tongue out and sure enough there was a silver dot on her tongue.

"OHMIGOD! That is soooo cool!" Katey squealed.

"It rules Ali!" Renee chimed in.

Annie just smiled and nodded jealously.

"It hurts like hell though!" Ali told them.

She soothed it by getting some ice cream.

"Hey Renee, how about we all go over to your house after this?" Annie suggested. "You know, we could practice or something, and you and Ali could tell us what happened last night! No just joking, about telling us @ what happened, but anyway, what d’ya say?"

"Okay, sure." Renee replied remembering how Chris touched and kissed her.

"We’ll have to pick up my bass at my house then," Katey said.

"Lets see, I have mics and plenty of amps at my house, and Ali you can use my drum set, Annie, you can use my other acoustic guitar, and Katey you can use my bass guitar. That solves that!" Renee said.

"Okay, that’s easier anyway," Katey replied.

Annie nodded.

After a couple of hours scaring the shit out of some "preps", Katey’s mom came to pick them up.

She took everyone back to Renee’s house, and Annie and Katey decided to spend the night.

They set up their instruments and plugged in the mics and amps. They played all of their songs and were well into Green Day’s, ‘Basket Case’ when the phone rang once. They all suddenly stopped. Renee ran to get it.

"Hello?" she answered.

" Hello. This is Jonathan Miller from Mercury Records. May I speak to a Ms. Renee Pfeifer please?" a man’s voice asked.

Renee’s heart pumped.

"This is Renee, but hold on let me put you on speaker phone." Renee said pressing the speakerphone button as everyone came into the room where the phone was.

"Okay, you guys better sit down for this. I am an A&R representative for Mercury Records, and I saw your performance at Mom’s Music the other night. So I would like to ask you if you would like to sign a contract deal to Mercury Records?"

All four of them screamed.
