Chapter 6

The next morning I woke up later than normal and Taylor was gone. Hmmm, where could he be? I got up having somewhat of a clue as to his whereabouts and walked downstairs. My eyes were dozing off still pretty tired and I forced myself to wake up. After all, it was 12 o’clock in the afternoon! Damn, I had never slept in this late but it felt good. We rarely ever got to do that in this house especially whenever we would travel on the road. It felt great to finally catch up on my sleep again.

Pulling my long frizzy brown hair back into a ponytail, I walked into the kitchen to see my mom making bologna sandwiches for Jessica, Avery, and Mackenzie, my little brother and sisters.

"Mom, can I have Spaghetti O’s?" Mackenzie asked her in his little kid voice.

I smiled at him when I walked in.

"Good morning," my mom said to me.

I replied a yawned, "thanks or something" and then sat down at the kitchen table by Mackenzie.

"It’s about time you woke up!" Mackenzie giggled.

"Actually I could’ve used another hour or two but that’s ok," I replied. "So mom where’s Taylor and Zac?"

I tried to be a little inconspicuous about the obvious fact that I really wanted to know if he was with Janie or not.

"Um, Zac is outside playing basketball and Taylor went to Janie’s."

I sighed.

"Somethin’ bothering you hun?" she asked me like she always did when she sensed there was something wrong.

"No, mom, I’m ok, I’m just hungry," I lied with a fake yawn to go along with it.

She gave me a concerned glance and then turned away back to the sandwiches that she had abandoned on the counter.

"Want me to make you a sandwich?"

"Sure, if you want to, but I’m gonna go take a shower first ok?"

"All right hun."

I got up, walked out of the kitchen and towards the stairs when the front door suddenly opened letting my little brother, Zac, in. He carried a round orange basketball under his arm and his face was all hot and sweaty. I smiled at him as we passed.

"Good morning!" he said to me cheerfully. "Wanna play some b-ball Ikey-poo?"

I shook my head descending on the staircase slowly.

"Not today little bro. I’ve got things to do," I replied walking all of the way upstairs.

I heard a mumbled "all- right" and then a sigh from Zac. I kind of felt bad, but we spend way too much time together anyway. So what’s the point in yet another round of me kicking Zac’s ass in basketball again?

I headed into my room, gathered some clothes for the day, and then went straight to the bathroom. I turned the water on hot, stripped down, and got in. The water felt good rushing down my back and my chest. I could’ve gone back to sleep but I forced myself not to. I just stood there, with the water rushing over me, thinking about Janie. Every time I could even stop to think it would be about her. She was always the first thing that came to my mind. I wonder if she were here with me now what would happen. That’s so not logical, but it doesn’t hurt to fantasize every once in a while you know? But I guess some day I’ll have to face the reality that Taylor is madly in love with her and there’s nothing I can do about that. I mean obviously he’ll get to her first. Especially since she’s so much like him. Yeah they kind of do make a cute couple. Well, this is depressing me. I’ve got to make myself stop thinking about this! Geez!

After my normal bathing rituals, I got out dried my hair and got dressed. I decided to then call up my best friends, David, Jack, and Keith. They were like my best buddies since we were 10. They’re really cool except for one major detail. They all three drunk heavily and occasionally did drugs. That was their only flaw, but whenever they did get "stoned" or "wasted" I’d have to bail them out or totally ditch them. I wish they’d grow up and move out of those habits. It was really stupid how they’d always get trashed every Friday and Saturday night! I’m sure they will be tonight! They usually are. Well, despite their immaturity’s I decided to give them a call.

Like normal they were all over at Jack’s house. Jack lived alone and David and Keith still lived with their parents down the street from my house. Jack lived in an apartment downtown, alone. In a way we envied him because he had his own place. But I could never figure out how he paid for it. David said he was working a lot, but somehow I just doubted that.

The phone ringed three times before anyone ever picked up.

"Hey Jack what’s up, this is Ike."

"Oh, hey Isaac, nothin much buddy! We didn’t know you got back!" he exclaimed.

In the background I heard David yell, "Hi, Isaac!!!" really loud. I laughed.

"That was David, but anyway, what are we doing tonight?" Jack asked me.

"Um . . . I dunno."

Once again in the background I heard someone say, "How about who do we do tonight!"

I laughed again at my perverted little friends. It made me wonder why I was really even friends with them.

"Ok, how about we meet you at our normal spot like we do every Friday night?" Jack suggested.

"Alright sounds good to me," I told them. "Just don’t get too wasted ok you guys?"

I heard them all laugh and then Keith yelled, "Too late for that buddy!"

"Haha! Well, I guess we’ll see ya tonight Isaac!"

"Ok, bye you guys!"

"Bye."

I hung up and sighed. Great. Another night of me sitting there watching them get high and trying to pick up girls. In a way it was sort of amusing but only to a certain extent.
