We have a great responsibility
to our children. We are instructed to train
them up in the way they should go so that
when they are old, they won't leave that training.

Children Are

Children are as they are raised.
They do just as they see.
They follow our examples,
Of what they ought to be.

Children say just what they hear.
No matter what it is.
If grownups can say anything,
What can be wrong with this.

Children wear just what they're given,
And act the way they're taught.
They get into your grownup things,
And hope they don't get caught.

They like to try everything,
They see their parents do.
They want to be just like their folks,
When their childhood is through.

A child wants the same things,
Their parents say they need.
They wait for us to teach them,
And for us to take the lead.

We all have an obligation,
That is set down by the Lord.
We not only teach, but train them,
About what and who's to be adored.

We must set the example,
And do everything that we can.
So everyone  around can see,
God's image in each one.

The adults of the future,
Should be trained to grow up strong.
So when we leave this worldly place.
We'll know they'll carry on.

The Man Upstairs

When I was little, I recall,
My mama telling me.
About a man who lived upstairs,
And the friend that He could be.

He always came to our place,
Right at supper time.
He'd only stay a little while,
Then leave before we'd dine.

I remember all the stories,
She told to me of Him,
How He was there to help her,
Through the trials she'd been in.

She said that I could meet Him,
If I really wanted to.
And she showed me just exactly,
The things I'd have to do.

Now Mama's gone, but I still have,
The man who lives upstairs.
And every day I lean on Him,
My burdens He still shares.

The man who lives upstairs,
Will always be my guide.
You see, His name is Jesus,
And in Him will I abide.
