THE ONE LOVED BEST
The old woman sat by her lantern to read,
The tattered old book that laid there
From it she gathered the strength she'd need,
And on her worn cheek was a tear.
She smiled and gently nodded her head,
And turned the pages with care.
The thoughts and pictures she cannot shed,
With the words that are written there.
"Behold a child is born this day,
To be given to all of you.
That through HIS love for those who stray,
We all can be born anew."
Such pain and suffering, the old one thought,
For one so loving to bear,
And she skipped over pages for what she sought,
And she stopped and read more there.
"Blessed are the meek for theirs is Heaven,
And love each other as you'd love yourself.
Forgive your neighbor seventy times seven"
She looked up as the clock struck twelve.
She moved from her chair to her warm bed,
And she slowly laid down to rest,
In the morning her friends found her not,
She'd gone to the one she loved best.
I Cannot Understand
I cannot understand, the people of today,
For though they hear the word of GOD,
They throw their lives away.
I cannot understand, what makes each one so blind,
How can they choose the other way,
And leave HIS love behind.
I cannot understand what goes through their minds,
When they turn HIM down,
What do they hope to find?
They cannot understand, the power of HIS love,
Or the place that's known as Heaven,
That we will share above.
They cannot understand there's really a place for all,
If they'd take the time to listen,
And answer when HE calls.
