On New Years Day 1999 at noon all over the world members of the Stationary Engine List were Cranking up old engines. Me and my family decided this would be fun! Actually they thought it was stupid to be out in the cold weather doing this, but I talked them into it.
This year we thought we might try to fire up our 6 horsepower Fairbanks Morse gas engine. The engine was built in 1916. We also thought it might be interesting to belt up our corn grinder to the engine and make a little bird feed.
This year I (Kelly Reynolds) was joined by Kimberly Reynolds (my 2 soon to be 3 year old daughter), Randy Shoptaugh (my brother-in-law), and Barbara Reynolds (my wife and photographer). The weather was beautiful (22* f and a light snowfall). Just great for a New Years Crank Up!
In case the Fairbanks wouldn't start we also drug out a 3 horsepower Montgomery Ward (Clinton 4 cycle) engine. We ended up running both engines for a short time. You can only do so much at this time of year. It was alot of fun and can't wait to do it again next year!
