With the new scanner I got for Christmas, I scanned a picture I've had of a screenshot of the cancelled GoldenEye 007 game. Credit is given to Nintendo for taking the picture. Take a look at the picture here.

Want a chance to get a Virtual Boy system, but can't find it or don't have enough money? Nintendo Power magazine is running a contest (they do a contest every month, by the way) where the winner gets all five systems (including Virtual Boy) free, with all games featuring the characters in the upcoming game Super Smash Bros. for the N64. There are three VB games that include those characters: Mario's Tennis (Mario, Luigi, Yoshi), Mario Clash (Mario), and Galactic Pinball (Samus Aran). These three quality Virtual Boy games are only the tip of the iceburg. You'll also get other games including the Super Mario Bros. series (NES), the Metroid series (NES, GB, SNES), the Kirby games (GB, NES, SNES), Super Mario World 1 & 2 (SNES), Super Mario RPG (SNES), Pokémon Red & Blue (GB), Super Mario 64 (N64), both Mario Kart games (SNES, N64), both Star Fox games (SNES, N64), Mario Party, the Zelda series (NES, SNES, GB, N64), Yoshi's Story (N64), the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, the Donkey Kong Land trilogy, EarthBound (SNES), both F-Zero games (SNES, N64), Super Mario All-Stars (SNES), etc. Most likely, the winner will get most of these games, and hopefully all. The winner also gets Super Smash Bros. for the N64. Second place winners (5 possible winners) will also get the Super Smash Bros. game. Third place winners (50 possible winners) get a T-Shirt. Poll cards need to be turned in by the end of the month, so if you want to take a chance at getting all these great games, mail in the card now.

There were actually 21 Virtual Boy games released in Japan, instead of 20. The 21st game is Virtual Bowling, by Athena.
Also, I have deleted all Japanese Virtual Boy Game Profiles for certain "disk space" reasons. However, you can still find info about the games (Game Title, Publisher, Developer, Release Date, and Genre) in the Virtual Boy Software section.

Believe it or not, there's actually an update to the Virtual Boy Software section. Go check it out.

Well, it's already two years since Nintendo cancelled Virtual Boy. (Has it really been that long?) I've been sending in e-mail to Nintendo to ask if they are re-launching the Virtual Boy anytime in the future. Guess what they said? They said "no" and they also said why: video game technology has moved on, Virtual Boy is too old (well, something like that). So, I wouldn't even expect it to be re-launched now. Also, by now stores really aren't selling any VB games anymore. And the ones that are usually only have games such as Virtual Boy--Wario Land and Teleroboxer. But chances are people already have those games.
Also, three VB Game Profiles are updated with new information and pictures: Mario's Tennis, Galactic Pinball, and Teleroboxer. Look for more Game Profile updates soon.

I'm probably not going to have any updates to this section anymore. However, always check the left side of this section for updates, in other sections, that have something to do with Virtual Boy. On the 19th, I added two reviews and two Kviews (check the Reviews/Previews section to see what Kviews are). Remember, you too can send in reviews. If you have any questions about Virtual Boy or its games, just e-mail me.

Since there aren't many VB games out there and a few of you may be looking for a certain type of game, here's a little "Genre List" for you:
  • Action: If there is one genre that VB is known for, it's action games. Galactic Pinball is pinball in 3-D. (Check out my Galactic Pinball review.) Red Alarm is the "Star Fox" game for Virtual Boy. Mario Clash is a 3-D version of the original arcade game Mario Bros. Jack Bros. is the only over-head game for VB, making it the closest you'll ever get to a Zelda-type game. Vertical Force takes games like R-Type and Gradius into the world of 3-D. Waterworld, which is known as the worst game for VB, offers an arcade-style shoot-em up. Wario Land is known as the best game for Virtual Boy. But be warned: It's very short. But, it's the only side-scrolling platform game for VB. (Check out my Wario Land review.)

  • Fighting: The only game that comes close to this genre is TeleroBoxer, one of the first VB games and VB's only boxing game.

  • Puzzle: There are two VB games that fall under this category, and only one that partially falls under it. 3-D Tetris combines 3-D gaming and Tetris to make for a interesting game. Panic Bomber takes traditional 2-D gaming and turns it into a blast. Although Mario Clash is an action game, it does have bit of puzzle-like gameplay in it.

  • RPG/Adventure: There are no RPG's on Virtual Boy. However, Jack Bros. does have adventure elements in it, which makes it an Action/Adventure game. Wario Land is also considered an Action/Adventure game.

  • Science-Fiction: Is this a genre? Well, I think it is. Games that fall under this category are Galactic Pinball (Samus, from Metroid, makes a cameo appearance in this game), TeleroBoxer, Red Alarm, Vertical Force, and Waterworld. For more info on Sci-Fi games (in general), check out the Sci-Fi Section.

  • Sports: There are too many different types of sports games for VB, so I put them all into one category. If you own a VB system, you probably already own Mario's Tennis. TeleroBoxer takes the Punch-Out!!-type style of boxing and puts it into a 3-D arena. Virtual League Baseball is the only baseball game for VB. Golf, developed by T&E Soft (those guys make great golf games), is the only golf game for VB, but there is only one course. And Nester's Funky Bowling is, besides the only bowling game, the only two-player game on Virtual Boy. However, it is only alternative play (you take turns).

Here are the Japanese genres:
  • Action: In addition to the American games, there are Space Invaders: The Virtual Collection, which takes the classic arcade game into the 3-D realm of Virtual Boy, and Insmouse, which is supposed to be a Doom-like game.

  • Puzzle: 3-D Tetris was never released in Japan. Japanese puzzle games included Panic Bomber (check above), Virtual LAB, which I know little about, and V-Tetris, which is classic (regular) Tetris for Virtual Boy.

  • Science-Fiction: Three games make it into this category. Dimension Wars is a war-simulation game that uses a futuristic space war as its theme. Space Invaders: The Virtual Collection is about an alien invasion. And Space Squash is squash (a British sport) played in space, with robot competitors.

  • Simulation: Dimension Wars, which I think is by Bandai, is a space war-simulation.

  • Sports: Space Squash is squash (a British version of something like racquetball) played out in space. From what I've heard, it's a pretty good game. Virtual Fishing was supposed to be released in America last year, but since Nintendo decided to cancel further development for Virtual Boy, it never did. But, at least Japan got it. It's just fishing, in 3-D.

If I hear of any other Japanese VB games, you'll see them on the genre list and in the Software Section under Japanese Games.

Two new Japanese VB games have been added to the software section: SD Gundam Dimension Wars and Virtual LAB. The first game is a space war strategy game and the second game is a puzzle game. To see other Japanese and American releases just check out the Virtual Boy Software section. The link to it is down below.

If you are thinking about getting a Virtual Boy system or Virtual Boy games, do it fast. Since Nintendo is no longer producing new copies of Virtual Boy games, stores have no way of replenishing their stocks. What stores have now is what they will always have, besides the fact that people are buying the games and soon there won't be any left. I got my Virtual Boy in June and so far I have seven games, that's half the games there are in North America. Third-party company games are even harder to find than Nintendo games. If you are wondering what those games are, here's a list: Jack Bros. (by Atlus), Virtual League Baseball (by Kemco), and Waterworld (by Ocean). Only get the Waterworld if you really want ALL Virtual Boy games. So, anyway, try to get as many as possible, because when they're gone, they're gone.
