The Story of
The Indian Creek Valley Railroad

Although I have been into model railroading since I was a kid, and have built several HO scale railroads, this is my first attempt at building a Garden Railroad. Here I hope to tell you more than you might care to know about my railroad.

I live in Seymour, Indiana, which was the 'end-of-the-line', or the farthest point to the east, for The Milwaukee Road while I was a kid. I lived a couple of blocks from where the Milwaukee crossed over The Pennsylvania RR, and would often times ride my bicycle up to watch the trains go by. I got to know the crews on The Milwaukee Road trains, and that railroad has been my favorite ever since.

Seymour is located in Jackson County in southern Indiana. The west and northwest parts of Jackson Co. are very rugged and rural. The Milwaukee Road made its way through these hills and hollows on its way to Seymour. Indian Creek crosses through this part of the county. The Indian Creek Valley Railroad is a fictional railroad that I made up which would have taken off from the Milwaukee Road in this area, and made its way up into Brown County, Indiana, which is even more hilly than Jackson. I built an HO scale railraod on this idea, but never completely finished it, and the equipment is now boxed up.

I have lived in my house for 9 years now, and have had a vegetable garden most of those. This year, after looking at a video tape showing the building of a friend's garden railroad, The Jonesville & Western, I knew I had to build one for myself. So I started buying supplies about the middle of April, 2000, and am getting into the full swing of building now!
