Blish House (Burkholders)

(the copyright wording will not appear on the purchased print)

This was originally built as the residence of Meedy Shields Blish, who along with his brother, Tipton Blish, owned and operated the Blish Mill Company, which had been established by their father, John H. Blish in 1852. This house was the first one in Seymour to have electricity when the Blishes ran electric wired from the steam-powered generator at the mill to the house. Mrs. M. S. Blish also taught what is believed to have been the first kindergarten class in Seymour on the third floor of this house. In 1963, Victor Burkholder purchased the home and restored it as a residence and mortuary. Today it is owned and operated by Myers Funeral Services.
