The Hotel Jonas

(copyright wording will not appear on the purchased print)

This Hotel was one of the first buildings built in Seymour in the 1850's. It was first known as the Radar House and was the hangout of the infamous Reno Brothers gang of outlaws (the world's first train robbery). It was the Hotel Jonas from 1873-1913. I decided to draw this version of the building because this was the oldest photograph that I could find of it. In 1913 it became the office building for the B&O Railroad. Later it was also known as the Hardesty House, the Walton Hotel, and most recently The Centennial. It was being refurbished, but tragically burn to the ground on Christmas morning, 1998. It stood on the southwest corner of St. Louis and Jeffersonville Avenues, by the railroad crossing in downtown Seymour, Indiana.
