When I became interested in these scary stories and places I was not living a Christian life. Now, don't just click back to my Halloween page, hear me out. I was raised in a church, but had really gotten away from it after graduation. Over the last couple of years I have renewed my relationship with Jesus Christ, and I can really say that I have gotten rid of fear in my life!
I still enjoy reading scary stories, and I still like to get some friends together and check out these spooky places, but I can honestly say that when I go to these places, I am not afraid! Let's look at what the Bible say about fear....
I Timothy 1:7- For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Romans 8:15- For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship.
I John 4:18- There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
If we back up a few verses, it tells us that God is that love.
Now, I'm certainly not saying that I am perfect, and if I start to turn from Jesus, I can let fear start creeping in, especially with all unrest in the world today. But, I just have to call on Jesus and he is there! Philippians 4:7 calls it a 'Peace that passeth understanding', and it is true! It is beyond our understanding, but I can tell you it is real.
How can you have this peace inside? On the day of Pentecost, after Jesus had assended into heaven, Peter was asked by onlookers what they had to do to be saved. His answer in Acts 2:38 was "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
