Seminars Organised

1. A meet organised at University of Madras on "RESOURCE ENHANCEMENT THROUGH NETWORKING", exclusively for Principals of City Colleges on March 13, 1998. Prof. T. Viswanathan, Executive Director, MALIBNET, delivered a special lecture on "IMPROVING THE ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT USING INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY".

1. A seninar organsied at Stella Maris College on "IMPROVING THE ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT USING INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY" on April 07, 1998. Dr. B.B.Sundaresan, President, MALIBNET spoke about the importance of resource sharing and the functioning of MALIBNET at length. Prof. T.Viswanathan delivered a special lecture and he gave a glimpse of network society of the future. An interactive session with live demonstration of online databases was conducted.

Governing Board Meeting

Nineteenth MALIBNET Governing Board meeting was held on March 13, 1998 at University of Madras, Chepauk. A decision to introduce a new category of membership called 'User Category' was taken.

Standardization Sub-committee Meeting

Standardization Sub-committee meeting held on January 07, 1998 at CSIR Madras Complex, Taramani.

Working Group Meeting

Ninth Working Group Meeting of MALIBNET was held on July 15, 1998 at the CSIR Madras Complex. Dr. S.Venkadesan, Head-LIS, IGCAR, Kalpakkam was elceted as the Chairman for the Working Group.

• Directory Database of Current Serials includes 2720 unique titles from 46 libraries.
• Contents Database has information from 371 journals and 45746 records for the current year.
• Automotive Industry Database has information from 16 journals and 12567 records.
• Current Journal Holdings Data collected from 30 libraries.

• 49th FID Conference and Congress at New Delhi

International Federation of Information and Documentation (FID) is holding its 49th conference and congress for the first time in India between 11th and 17th  October 1998. The host is INSDOC, New Delhi. The theme of the conference is : "Towards the New Information Society of Tomorrow: Innovation, Challenes and Impact". Prof. T. Viswanathan, Director, INSDOC and Executive Director, MALIBNET, is the chairperson of the congress. MALIBNET is one of the steering institutions for the congress.

• Professional Contributions Invited

MALIBNET will be delighted to publish short communications relevant to library and information science. All are welcome to contribute. The contributions could include case studies in the libraries and information centres etc. in the form of a type written/computer printout on the single side of the paper but limit to two pages. The contribution will be reviewed for acceptance and published only if accepted. Please send your contribution to Manager, MALIBNET.

Training Courses

MALIBNET can also oraganise specialised training programmes at customers institutions.

Governing Board Meeting/General Body Meeting

Twentyfirst MALIBNET Governing Board Meeting and sixth Annual General Body Meeting is scheduled on August 12, 1998 at the Syndicate Hall of Anna University, Chennai.

Membership is open to Universities, Colleges, R&D Institutions, Industries and Individuals.
