My First Paying Photography Job

I love taking pictures. I especially like candid shots.
Just everyday looks, natural smiles, people
being themselves and doing their thing.

Pictures tell stories.

When I visit family & friends, I like to
look at their pictures...the ones hanging on
the wall, the baby album and the vacation pictures.
I'm the babysitter that will be looking through your
family photo album while you're gone. =)
It's your life - recorded on film.
You can learn alot about a person by looking
at their photo albums.

The best pictures are the ones that aren't
posed, don't you think? Sometimes,
of course, we have to pose for pictures. School pictures,
family reunion photos, family portraits, mug shots(?),
wedding pictures and...as is the one
above - engagement photos.

This is a friend of my sister. She saw
some of my work and asked if I'd do her engagement
pictures. I had no clue what to charge for this sitting
and didn't even want to talk about a fee until
I knew we'd all be satisfied with the final product.

We got together one weekend and took some photos
by the river. The season wasn't the best for that though
and all the trees were bare, everything just
looked kind of dismal. Then she suggested
taking a few pictures at her parents home. The grass and trees
were still green. This photo was taken there. I didn't keep a copy
of the prints, so I pulled this copy from the newspaper.
It was so exciting to see my photo in the paper!

Actually, I did take my sister's engagement photo
too and it also was in the paper.
But, I guess since that was not a paying job,
it wasn't as thrilling as someone paying money for
the photos and finding one worthy enough to publish.

So, how much was my first sitting fee?

$35.00

Not too bad for an amateur really.

I was happy.

They were happy.

Aren't you happy? :)

Perhaps, the beginning of a life-long career....?

Only time will tell, I suppose.
