Fun Time Activities

Ewwy Gooey!

Today I made this really awesome fingerpaint with my kids.
1/3 Cup of Cornstarch
3 Tablespoons of Sugar
2 Cups of Cold Water
Food Color
1. Mix the cornstarch, sugar, and water in a saucepan.
2. Cook and stir until thick (about 5 minutes).
3. Divide the brew into different containers. Add different food colors to each container. (I used red, blue, and yellow--then we made green, purple, orange, and brown on our paper).

This is sort of sticky, so you want to make sure to do it on a surface that cleans well (like the kitchen floor, garage, or basement, maybe even the bathtub). I thought this was fun and so did the kids, they even licked their fingers while painting!

Oh So Many Bubbles
3 Cups Water
2 Cups liquid dish detergent
1/2 Cup Karo Syrup

Mix ingredients and let sit for at least one day before using. Then use bubble-wand, plastic rings, or even a string to make great bubbles.

For the Birds
Pine Cones
Peanut Butter
Bird Seed
String
Spread the peanut butter over the pine cone and roll in the bird seed. Then, attach the string and hang it outside so you can watch the birds.

Fun Face Paint
6 tsp cornstarch
3 tsp water
3 tsp cold cream
Food colors
Divide the cornstarch into a 6 cup muffin tin (1 tsp per cup). Add 1/2 tsp each water and cold cream. (You may need to add a few more drops of water if the mix is too thick.) Then mix in the desired food color to each cup.
The kids will love this and it comes off very easily.

Ghost Writing
Lemon juice or milk
Toothpick
White Paper
Dip the toothpick in the lemon juice (or milk). Then write a message or draw a picture. Let it dry. Then, hold the paper up to a light (close enough to warm it). The message will become clear.

Holiday Activities:

Ornaments
What you need:
Four popsicle sticks
One old holiday greeting card
Yarn or ribbon
Glue

Take and cut the greeting card down to size so that it fits in the popsicle frame. Take the popsicles and glue them around your picture (this will be the "frame"). You can add the ribbon by gluing it to the back of the frame and making a loop. You can also add holiday decorations like riff raff or glitter to personalize it.
Write the year on the back and you have a keepsake.
If you like you could use a photo in place of the greeting card.

Another Cool Ornament

Things you need:
Clear glass ornament
Acrylic paint (in a tube or squeeze bottle)
Ribbon

Take the paint and squirt it into the glass ornament as you twirl the ornament it will make designs. Let it dry, and then add the ribbon so you can hang it.

Reindeer Ornament

You can make a reindeer onrnament.
All you need is 3 popsicle sticks glued together in a triangle, red pom- pom or contruction paper nose, brown construction paper with childs handprints traced on it for antlers, and 2 black eyes put it all together, and you have a nice momento to hang on your tree every year. Dont forget to date it.

Valentine's

Valentine on a Stick
Here is what you need:
Small photo
Red, white, pink construction paper
Glue
Scissors
Popsicle stick
Magnet

Take and cut 3 hearts from the construction paper (you'll want the hearts to be successively smaller.)
Cut out the middle of the two smaller hearts (so you have a "frame").
Paste the photo to the middle of the larger (whole) heart.
Then, glue the bigger of the two heart frames over the picture.
Finish by placing the "smaller" of the heart frames over the picture so that it is in the middle of the "larger" heart frame.
Glue the "heart" to the popsicle stick.
You can add a magnet to the back if you like for a refridgerator magnet.
