'*.!.!Oi!.!.*'

~United (The Voice Of Oi)~
The voice of oi is calling you
With a message that is true
Punky herberts straight and skin
All of you come on in
Cos oi's for skins and oi's for punks
It's fun and fury real urban funk
The voice of oi is unity
The beat of the street is you and me
United is the thing to be
United against society
Think how strong we can be
United against society
So stick together and see it through
Strength through oi is me and you
Let them twist our every word
But we're gonna be heard
Cos oi ain't about having a fight
Oi ain't ever about black vs. white
The voice of oi is unity
Not them and us just you and me
United is the thing to be
Power to the people not anarchy
Think how strong we will be
United against society

I thought that poem up there was pretty cool but I thought I should explain some things...just so you don't get the wrong idea. First off, the original skinheads were NOT racist, and nor am I. Ok, now I can tell you about Oi! and the skins...sorry if it doesn't make much sense now, I just kinda threw it together. Oi! emerged out of the punk and skinhead scene. When it did, society labeled it as the music for nazis. Although any true skinhead knows the nazis were pathetic and came out of the whole National Front deal. They didn't care for music. Oi! wasn't politics, it was about rebellion through music. It was about getting your point across and having fun at the same time. The beliefs of the nazis contradicted any sort of belief in Oi anyway. Skinheads originated in Britain in the mid to late 1960's out of a youth cult known as the Mods. They were the working class kids who were also street smart. They got into a lot of rough street fights, but at night they just went out to dance. By the late 70's, the National Front had invaded the skinhead movement and kids were being recruited as street soldiers for the NF. Since skins were already a violent breed, the NF decided that if their young recruits adopted the skinhead appearance they might benefit from the reputation. It was at this point that racism permeated the skinhead cult without the consent of its members. Racism was never associated with skins as a core ideal, but like every other group out there today you can't speak for everyone...every group has it's own individual racist shitheads. In fact, back then, skins where not only white but black as well as other races.
