You know, if its one genre that the PSX lacks in, its the horror genre. Apart from Resident Evil and Clock Tower what other games does the PSX have that are scary? Granted some games are truly frightening because they suck so bad, but they don't count. Anyway, SL takes a different approach than RE. RE uses pre-rendered backgrounds while SL uses a real time engine with polygonal backgrounds. The downside is that the game has some foggy backgrounds, kinda like San Fransico Rush in a way. But it does look very dark and scary, and therefore it made it on my top 20!
I know, I know, Twisted Metal 3 did kinda suck. But DITW looks like another hit. Its combat on the open waves. Arghh laddies! Anyway, this looks like the right combination of hard combat with racing, perfect for a hit game. Mmmm, lets get wet!
Come on Konami, hit one out of the park! I'm praying that this game makes it. I mean, sweet graphics, stealth, killing, how can this go wrong? In the game you play a Japanese assasin, but this looks to also have some adventure elements too, so it should prove interesting at least.
Now, I admit, I don't have any info on this game, but its the premise that excites me. Its an FPS set in WW2 and linked to Saving Private Ryan. This should be interesting. I wonder if the characters will try to pick up their arms if you shoot them off?
So you thought that Gran Tourismo was the best looking racer out there didn't you? Well YOU'RE WRONG!!! HAHAHAAH! Oh sorry. R4 looks to actually surpass GT in graphics, and it will of course be fast arcade action. And there is the matter of 300 cars in my game. And I thought there were alot of cars in GT....
The first RPG of the list. This colorful RPG reminds me for some reason of the first RPGs on the SNES from Square. Kinda like Secret of Mana and all. This looks like an RPG that we all pine for, one with story and great character development being favored over flashy graphics.
Well, this ends the first of four installments of my special on the games of 1999. Tune in a couple days for part 2!
