Suikoden
108, no really, that is the EXACT number of people you can recruit in your party, in this, Konami's first RPG on Playstation, and one of their finest moments. The story seems similar enough, seemingly glorious empire corrupting within, you, the son of the greatest Imperial general, are drawn to the side of the rebels. Ultimately you become their leader, and lead the Liberation Army on a crusade to free the land from the bondages of dictatorship.
GRAPHICS: A bit on the 16-bittish side, but the animations are smooth and some spell effects actually quite impressive.
SOUND: Inredible orchestral soundtrack from the Imperial Capitol at the beginning to the final confrontation.
CONTROL: Smooth and uncomplicated.
GAMEPLAY: The game has three modes of battle, an innovative feature that for some reason or other is present in few other games. The one-on-one "boss" duels, the standard five person party, and large strategic battles between Liberation and Imperial forces. The game moves along at a smooth clip, but finding ALL 108 possible characters, and keeping them alive, is a challenge worthy of any RPG guru.
GRAPHICS: 7 SOUND: 9 CONTROL: 9 GAMEPLAY: 10 OVERALL: 9
(insert witty remark here, ending with:) Own this game!
