During the past few months,
I have never seen so much knowledge and potential flow forth from my mind.
Never did I
know that we as individuals were capable of so
many things. Recently I was encouraged to create a world in which I could
visit often. That is, create this world in my
head, build forth from it and visit it. I am not sure which was more fun,
creating it or actually going there. Oh! you
say you want me to tell you what it was like? Alright then, I'll tell you
the
tale of the first time that I visited my inner
sanctuary...
I was created. I had
materialized in my world. Facing south, I looked out across the blue horizon;
the ocean was
beautiful this warm breezy afternoon. To my right,
I caught sight of a long pier, and attached to the end of this pier
was a large, sailing vessel. The shimmering water
surrounding it made luminous with white light, stirring me with an
enchanting feeling of rapture.
I wheeled around to
look at the landscape behind me. In a westerly direction, there was a large
forest a ways off in
the distance, that extended all the way out to
the ocean waters. It was not a thickly covered area, but shaded, none
the less. Somewhere within those trees, I could
barely make out the outline of a rectangular building; I remembered that
this was my secondary control house.
Turning clockwise, I
saw in the far distance, a rather outlandish looking tower, with at ladder
that went up to the
top. On the top of this tower were several pointed
devices. Some of them appeared to be communication devices, but some
of them also appeared to be a weapon of some
sort; of this I was certain. There was an expanse of meadow grass between
me
and the tower. I also noticed a rather peculiar
looking post like thing sticking up out of the ground beside the tower.
What was that? It looked like an self-standing
ashtray, except that it was six feet tall. Oh yes! This was my sub-
command control posts. They enabled me to change
several landscape parameters or duplicate a certain object whenever I
needed. Turning quickly to my right to face the
east, I found another sub-command control post as I expected. I ordered
up
a large chocolate frosty, and it formulated right
before my eyes. I smirked as I took a sip. "Just like Star Trek," I
said out loud. I now took in the rest of
the landscape. I began walking up a stone laden path to my sun temple.
It was
a small, quaint, circular temple that had a cushioned
bed in the center. It was specifically designed to have the sun
shining on this bed every hour of the day. I
had also incorporated a strange device into this temple. It was a series
of tube
lamps that contained our star's plasma within
them. When energized, they gave off a very powerful glow that was perfectly
identical to the sun's appearance. I built this
extension into the temple in case I ever wanted to visit at night, and
absorb
energy from the sun. I took a moment to
relax into the bed. I got very comfortable, and nearly fell asleep, but
I got up after
I had noticed what I was doing. It was still
a very bright afternoon, and I walked next door to my first command control
central
room.
The
log cabin appeared to be harmless and of no meaningful value to the untrained
eye. But I knew of the technology that
I would find there as the heavy wooden door noisily
creaked open. There was a steady hum of power in here. I was filled with
a buzz of energy as I looked at all of this magnificent,
nearly god-like technology. In the center of the room, there was a table
equipped with a broad array of controls and panels.
There appeared to be a hologram of the solar system, and it's current
status
above this table. I knew then that even such
things as planetary and lunar position ing were available for me to change.
Looking
down at this table, I discovered a map of the
immediate area, with each major point indicated as a blue dot. I jumped
up and
yelled "Woohoo!" Everything was so fascinating!
Finding the controls for the planetary positioning, I tried to figure out
how they
worked - a dangerous game of trial and error.
I looked up and saw one of the three orbital moons suddenly pull and change
position, but I didn't understand the significance
of it. As I looked back down at the array of buttons and controls, the
outside
seemed to get dim. I noticed this, and bewildered,
I temporarily stepped out of the small cabin. A lunar eclipse was starting!
My
goodness! I jumped again, and ran back inside.
I decided to play with some other things before I completely devoured the
joy that
I was receiving off of the planetary adjustment
system. There were several banks of what appeared to be a large frame of
a
computer system along the walls. Amongst this
frame were three keyboards, their functions were yet unknown to me. The
first
two appeared to do nothing, as I tapped and hit
several keys. When I pressed a key on the third keyboard, a sound came
from a
local speaker; it appeared to be some form of
binary language. Aha! That's what it was! But why was it there? I looked
up and
noted that there were many other banks of dials,
switches, meters, lights. I decided to visit the rest of the place before
I messed
anything up. I left the place and began to walk
up the path farther, this time
towards this mysterious tower. I noticed that
the lunar eclipse was now in it's full effect and everything appeared to
be dimmed.
It reminded me of a hazy dusk, except that the
light source was still directly overhead. I cannot describe how enchanting
this was.
At
the base of the tower, I climbed four flights of stairs and afterwards,
I dutifully ascended up a long ladder to the top of
the tower. I reached the top and my hair began
to rise on it's end. Whatever it was that was up here, it sure was creating
some
strong magnetic fields. I began to get scared,
but then as I was just considering leaving, I remembered that this was
my world,
and that nothing could go wrong unless I willed
it. I chuckled to myself. I affirmed that my original impression of this
tower was
correct; it was a vast communications tower,
and yet it also served as a formidable defense post. In simple curiosity,
I took hold
of one of the mounted cannons on the railing.
It appeared to be either an electro or photo incinerator of some kind.
I pointed it at
a simple place in the ground, and pulled the
small and rather simple plastic trigger. An ear shattering high pitch blast
reverberated
in my skull as I was temporarily blinded. Fearing
a loss of balance, I immediatly sat down and worked on regaining my vision.
Once all of the little white spots had cleared
away, I looked again at the target ground that I had chosen. It had a charred
radius
of approximately fifteen feet and a gouge that
went two feet deep and eight feet wide. "Well, I guess it's a photo-incinerator
then. Geez," I muttered to myself, still slightly
dizzy. I looked out across the landscape, but I still could not make out
too many
details, as the lunar eclipse was still in a
good waning stage. Noticing the other building again in the nearby forest,
I decided on
trekking over there, but as I was beginning to
climb down the ladder, I heard a voice speaking to me. It was a voice inside
my
head... I listened to it, but it spoke foreign
words; I didn't understand it...
My eyes flickered open
and I let out a gasp as I felt somebody shaking my bed! It was my mother
telling me to get
into the bathroom and brush my teeth. I let out
a sigh of relief, and got up numbly and walked to the bathroom. This
had been an experience beyond my wildest dreams!
I pondered over my actions
as I scrubbed my teeth with my toothbrush. Who says you can't live out
your dreams? It
seemed as though I was there for eternity! Although
when I looked out in the kitchen at the time, I estimated that I was
in trance for nearly an hour; I shook my head
in wonder. I wanted desperately to go back immediatly, but I knew that
I
couldn't. Not tonight. That would defy the true
atmosphere and feeling of it. My wacky logic convinced me of this, and
I
half-heartedly accepted it. But I vowed to visit
again the next day. Why was it that I was so affected by what I saw that
night in my visions? Because gradually, as I
played the game, the game came to me rather than I to the game, thus establishing
a strong link between reality and fantasy; a
world of endless opportunities were laid before me. This was a world that
I had
created and it was mine to explore and build.
It was more than just a piece of art.
One knows not the power
of the mind. It is said that anyone can manifest their dreams into their
own daily lives, and I
believe this to a certain extent. But until I
am able to do this, I have found that it is only within myself that I can
practice.
