The Exemplification of America

We call ourselves Americans. What for?  Aren't we all human? What is the point of labeling ourselves like so? Some
may say that it is simply to declare one's nationality; I agree with them. But is that all? I think not. We are all
humans indeed, but we have all grown up under different conditions and environments. Politics play a large role in
this diversification of the complete human race; for they are often a major determining factor in defining our
environmental variables. Okay, so what makes us Americans? What's so big about it? My friend, it is only a small step in
the realization and utilization of the individual self. Let's explore ourselves as Americans, shall we?
There are two negative and two positive characteristics that I have depicted. Let's first start with the negatives. I
have found that we as Americans are often not very conservative when it comes to worldly resources. I can't
tell you how many times that my family has ignored this. There are numerous cases where my family has turned on all
of the lights in a particular room just to read a book. Why waste 160 to 260 watts of electricity for an hour or two to
read a book when it only takes me 60 watts? This is only the beginning. They commonly leave these same lights on when
they leave the room for a long period of time. This general idea also applies with our many other natural resources, such
as water and heat and cooling. This is a waste of energy and supply; why do we continue to do so?
Another thing that irritates me about the common American is that we are simply not devoted to anything we
indulge in anymore; in most cases, for example, marriages. Why do we get married if we only turn around to get divorced
within two years time or less? Is this lack of judgment or is it lack of devotion? I think that it could be both, but
the lack of endurance is more characterized by Americans, so I am not including lack of quality judgment in this scene.
I know of many relatives and friends' parents whom have gotten married and divorced over three times. I really believe
that if one is devoting one's life to their partner, and vice versa, they should keep the sacred vows that they made at the
alter; too often have I seen cases where these vows were cast aside without thought or care.
But now don't we as Americans have something positive that we can identify ourselves by? Of course we do! For
example, I have always taken notice that we as Americans are pretty devoted workers in whatever field of labor we
are involved in. Each week, my dad gets up early in the morning to do paperwork, and thereafter goes out to work on
the job for long hours. Sometimes, he doesn't get home till I'm in bed! I think that most Americans have this attitude
towards their job, and that we do a good job of keeping our economy up and running. One other positive characteristic
that we possess is that we are always promoting safety. By that I mean saying no to drugs and alcohol, establishing
speed limits on our roads and highways, laws that help keep our children away from harmful things, and helping others
when they are in need. Too many times I can recall where my mom or dad have grilled me with these little rules, and
though it is annoying, it is good for the average American citizen in the long run.  Safety is also brought on with the help
of many various politicians that help us establish these rules of safety; how many times have you seen a billboard
advertisement or a television commercial that speaks against alcohol or drugs? This promotion of safety is pressed and
felt across America comfortably and has good intent.
Just as everything has a negative, everything has a positive. Just as all criminals are evil in deed, there is good that is
somewhere buried in their hearts, or there is a form of good in their intentions. A circuit requires a positive and a negative
to flow; this same principal applies to the life of the galaxy, and the operation of linear time. Just as all Americans have
bad sides, they also have good sides. Consider these factors that I've presented along with a few of your own and think
about it for a while.
