One Last Breath

She looked up at the star filled say and sighed. Why? What happened? Everything was good. Not great. But good. Is that why? She thought miserably.

She shifted her gaze from the glitter of the stars to the scratchy handwriting on the note in her hand. It was a note from him. From Joshua. From the man she loved.

Looking over the note to make sure she wasn't seeing thing tears stung the back of her eyes. But refusing to let them fall she blinked a few times and swallowed the sob rising in her throat.

Seeing that she was not mistaken she let a few tears fall and then looked at the bright, clear, innocent sky and let the note fall from her hand and off the cliff she sat upon.

Sighing once more she stood up and started walking back to their house. It wasn't far- only a few blocks.

She started to walk across the park- past a basketball court where a few guys played a game. Too caught up to notice her- in which she was glad. When she reached her destination she choked down the tears that were rising quickly and open the door.

Retreating up to her room she looked into the mirror. It didn't take a brain surgeon to tell her that she looked horrible.

The sobs in her throat were building up rapidly as she looked around the room. Most of his things were gone. But all the memories had stayed.

Looking down at her stomach she let out a loud, tortured sob- not being able to hold it in any longer.

She took out a few pieces of paper and a green pen, and began writing.

After an hour and a half of writing, she signed the nine page- front and back- letter, folded it up and put it in a envelope writing his name on it. By now her face was flooded with tears.

She walked to the medium sized bathroom and opened the draw and pulled out a small razor. Applying pressure to her wrist with the sharp object she quickly pushed down hard and moved it across her wrist.

Letting out a blood-curling scream she fell to the ground bleeding from the wrist. Good bye, Josh. I love you. I'm sorry I couldn't live to give birth to our child. Forgive me. She thought as the blood drained from her. She looked one last time at her stomach where her unborn child was- and forever will be. Finally, she took her last breath. Everything went black.
