Tonight's the Night

The Daily Telegraph, 12 February 1998 Tonight's the night Paul McDermott, host of ABC's Good News Week, will present a Tonight-style show for the national broadcaster in the second half of the year. While th deal hasn't been signed and sealed, word is that it's a goer. It will be produced by Ted Robinson and Dan Power, the team behind Good News Week. Such a show, with McDermott who has time on his hands now that he has given up radio, has been on the drawing board for a couple of years. Insiders say that the window of opportunity opened when Roy and HG decided to start this year off with a limeted series of only 10 shows. As they are still undecided about further shows, word is that McDermott's show will take over when the limited series winds up. Roy and HG are expected to make a return later in the year. McDermott, a hit with his rendition of Hunters and Collectors' Throw Your Arms Around Me in the Good News Week New Year's Eve Special will get to do more singing in his new show. In a couple of weeks, ABC music will release a CD with McDermott's monologues from Good News Week and including his version of Throw Your Arms Around Me. -JACQUELINE LEE LEWIS
