Blonde puts polo in the shade for Harry

THE Prince of Wales spent what would have been the 20th anniversary of his wedding to Diana, Princess of Wales, at the world’s biggest international polo match yesterday.

He agreed to present the prizes as England played Brazil for the 1911 Coronation Cup at a charity event organised by Hurlingham Polo Association.

He arrived by helicopter at Cowdray Park near Midhurst in West Sussex, wearing a lightweight suit and Panama hat. Prince Harry, wearing wrap-around shades, was already among the 10,000 spectators, at the centre of a group of young people. He was engaged in some cheerful tomfoolery while, by his side, a blonde girl looked bored. She fanned herself with the polo programme and occasionally spoke into a mobile phone emblazoned with a Union Jack.

The Prince of Wales was for nearly 20 years a player for England’s second team on Hurlingham’s traditional International Day, and he won the Silver Jubilee Cup many times. He met Camilla Parker Bowles at a polo match in 1973, and retired from competitive polo exactly 20 years later.

The match was played on the hottest weekend of the year; the soaring temperatures gave the tourist industry a much needed boost. Resorts struggled to cope with the crowds as 200,000 sun-seekers descended on Brighton beach.

Forecasters said temperatures had reached 32.5C (91F), beating the 32C (90F) recorded during Wimbledon. Holidaymakers who had not booked ahead faced disappointment in many coastal resorts over the weekend as hoteliers put out “No Vacancies” signs. The heatwave has given a boost for rural businesses hit by the effects of foot-and-mouth.

Motorists were advised to delay their return journeys until this morning after tailbacks of up to 30 miles were recorded on the M5 near Bristol. The heatwave is set to continue, but temperatures will cool later in the week.

CHEST GOOD FRIENDS

WATCHING a game of polo with a pretty blonde by his side was obviously hot work for Prince Harry yesterday.

The 16-year-old had to strip off his top to cool down after enjoying the action.

Harry and the young girl sat together in the grandstand several rows behind Prince Charles who was presenting the prizes at the Cowdrey Park event in West Sussex.

One onlooker said: "He looked very happy and relaxed.

"His party arrived separately from Prince Charles and they seemed to be having a lot of fun. Harry sat next to the blonde girl and it was obvious they knew each other well."

It's not the first time the young royal has found himself in the company of a blonde.

Last month he swung 18-year-old Emma Lippiatt around his waist while another girl tousled his hair after a polo match near his dad's Highgrove home in Gloucestershire.

Farmer's daughter Emma has also been spotted at parties with Harry.

HARRY GIRL WAS WILLS' LOVE BOAT BLONDE

THE blonde photographed with Prince Harry at a polo match at the weekend has previously been a companion of his brother.

Emilia d'Erlanger, 19, first came to the attention of royal watchers in 1999 when she joined Prince William on a summer holiday cruise, dubbed the "love boat", around the Greek islands.

She was among a group of girls Wills invited along for the 10-day trip.

He had feared there would not be enough young people aboard the yacht, on which Harry, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles were among the guests of Greek tycoon John Latsis.

At the time, Emilia's mum Elizabeth d'Erlanger, sister of the 10th Viscount Exmouth and a regional director of Sotheby's, said Prince William was "a lucky young man" to have the company of the girls.

Emilia is the youngest of five children and her dad Robin is a company director and a commercial pilot. The family home is a country manor near Tiverton, Devon.

She met William through friends in 1998 and has since been seen at several events attended by the royals.

On Sunday, she sat beside Harry as they watched the world's biggest one-day polo event in Cowdray Park, West Sussex, where Prince Charles presented trophies.

Last month, Harry was pictured with a group of blonde girls at another polo match.

Former factory worker Lizzy Ward, 18, ruffled his hair as they stood chatting.

April 7-News Flash: Prince Harry put his foot through a glass door at a party when he tried to hold it open for a friend! :( Here are some pics of Harry on crutches, and an article.

Prince Harry injured at party

Prince Harry is on crutches after accidentally putting his foot through a glass door. The 16-year-old prince was at a private party with friends when the accident happened, said St James's Palace.

Harry needed several stitches in hospital after his right foot was injured, a spokeswoman said.

The prince, who is living at his father's Highgrove residence in Gloucestershire, was at a party on Thursday night when he stuck his foot out to stop a glass door from slamming shut.

A spokeswoman said: "Someone came rushing through a door and he put out his foot to stop it swinging back but unfortunately pushed too hard and his foot went through a pane of glass at the base of the door."

'Good spirits'

She added: "He cut his foot on the pane on Thursday and went to hospital today for a few stitches.

"The cut is just above the shoe line on his right foot.

"He will be on crutches for 48 hours to stop him putting pressure on it.

"He's fine and is in good spirits."

St James's Palace described the injury as "minor".

In November Harry underwent a minor operation after chipping a bone in his thumb playing football.
