Joss and crew can not be forgiven for the last couple of episodes - last season we forgave him for killing Jenny...we forgave him for making Kendra a kamikaze UPS...we forgave him for not finding a way to save Ampatta - heck we forgave him for so much stuff I'm too upset to remember about right now but I know he did!!!
You know why we forgave him? Because there was still promise, there were still things to look forward to - because no matter how upset we were by the Judge's blueness and death we knew there was something more behind everything. We had faith in this man and tuned into his show every week. We waited for summer's end so we could continue to watch his creation and this is how he pays us back!!!
After last week's alien hell mishmosh I didn't know what to expect - I crossed my fingers and hoped - only to be let down. We were subjected to CHEAP "NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD" RIPOFFS!!! If they would only spend half of Angel's hair gel budget on their monster make up they might be passible but I can't help feeling that watching Buffy tonight felt like watching Dawson's Creek meets a B Movie.
How can the audience who experienced the Becomings, who watched Angel become Angellus, who watched Miss Edith be deprived of cakes be content with these disgusting monsters with their cheap costumes and deaths? How much ambiguity are we supposed to stand? The hellish monsters from last week were one thing - people could enjoy that - could forgive Joss, could even say he didn't want to detract too much from the main plot. I don't agree with you but Fine. Live in your happy little Joss filled world but this week was something else completely.
The monsters had nothing to do with the story plot. They weren't even real monsters - they were ZOMBIES!!! Where did they come from and why? Ugly zombies showed up out of no where, with no explanation or reason. That's what made this episode so much worse.
There was absolutely no reason for them to be there - no United Zombies of America meeting, no 1/2 Price Brain Platter With the Purchase of Another at Full Price - absolutely nothing at all. The only thing that should have been going on in this episode was emotonal upheaval on the part of Buffy and Co. There sould not have been any dumb party (how did they get it organised anyway? Willow and friends decided to have it after school was out for the day) anyway no party, no dumb comments by the guy by the dip, no anything like that. Witty one liners and comic relief should not have existed here.
This episode should have been serious, emotionally wracking and painful. We should have been moved to tears and it did looked promising at first. Buffy was feeling alienated from everyone who loved her but couldn't really cope with her sudden return. Everyone was trying to cope until those dern zombies showed up. They took so much away from the story line - who could concentrate on Xander's making out with Cordelia (which was just gross too) or Willow's new-found assertiveness when they knew the monsters were only steps away from the house? That suspense during the last ten minutes of the show is horrible and so typical of the old BtVSes. Joss should just wake up one day and say "Screw those thirteen year olds who only watch for the Monster of the Week!" and written the zombies out. Instead of augmenting the show and making me proud to be a Buffy fan they distracted and destroyed.
I am so disappointed. If you have any feelings, please let me know because if you stuck around long enough to read this you must be pretty upset too.
