Continuance has never been a strong point with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I'd just about given up on ever getting a truly good episode when Lover's Walk happened - occured - forever changed the way I view BtVS>.
Perhaps its was Spike's drunken prescence, perhaps it was the way Willow's face looked when Xander asked if he could kiss her earlobe, perhaps it was the fact that Buffy wore a significantly smaller amount of pink this episode - whatever it was this episode ROCKED!!!
The whole beginning of the episode was cool - I like the way these high school seniors just got their SAT scores and Xander isn't half as bummed as Willow about her 740 in English as she is. Will someone please tell her she can take them over? *LOL* Poor Willow - I think its that whole reading way too much Latin and stuff - maybe she should spend more time in the library. After all "To read English is makes our speaking English good." 0:-)
The sexual tension between Xander and Willow which seemed so exagerrated in the past is finally understandable. It seems that one kiss opened something so deep no one ever fathomed it - but its not just lust like it seemed at first. They're in love. Its almost like a spell. Xander and Cordelia while odd are cute "I never knew I was locker door material" but Oz and Willow were so - perfect. Has anyone ever noticed that they're the exact same height? I think that is so cool!!! 0:-)
I think Oz is so great though. The whole Witchy Pez melted me. 0:-) I mean I know that its a two buck present but still - I know I would have had the same reaction Willow had 0:-) and when he said "Well I think about you." I was aunghing like almost every other girl and a couple of guys of dubious sexuality. I wonder if there are gay vampires? I never thought about that before but anyway...
I think the best part of this episode were the smooth transitions between scenes. Buffy says "Nothing's going to happen." to Giles, Willow says "Something's going to happen" to Xander. Joyce asks "Honestly is there anything keeping you here?" and the scene cuts to Angel reading. Beautiful - wonderful - inspired.
We got to check out Mayor Richard Wilkins III who has sold his soul to become a puppet for the powers of evil but stil can't golf for anything. If I were to sell my soul the first thing I would ask for is a good golf game - I mean who wouldn't? 0:-) I don't understand why his secretary doesn't just skip town though - I would. Working for such a retard would have me bonkers and in a constant state of wiggin. *s*
But now that I've talked about everything else - lets discuss the world's greatest vampyre. He can walk in the sun, stake his own creations and deny his having a heart while still pining for his love. Everything that Lizzie and I said would happen last year if Dru split happened. He was alone, broken, funny and amazing.
I gave her everything, beautiful jewels, beautiful dresses with beautiful girls in them but nothing made her happy. And she would flirt!!! I caught her on a park bench making out with a Chaos Demon - have you ever seen a Chaos Demon? THey're all slime and antlers."
Although I can't imagine Dru doing any of those things I can see Spike falling around and almost burning in the sun because of her. I felt so badly for him. Being in a love as intense as his and then having the object of his affections split - I mean he allied himself with a SLAYER to save her sorry behind and this is how she repays him.
Poor Spike became human because of her. HE had a weak spot, an achilles heel, a pain inside him. 0:-( I cried. "How could she be so cruel?"
And he told everyone. One of my favorite scenes was when he was crying in Joyce's kitchen and she said "She sounds very unreasonable." who could forget Spike's "She is --- she's out of her mind. That's what I miss most about her." then he asks for little marshmallows to put in his hot chocolate. That was priceless - eternal Spike 0:-) I love the way humor isn't overdone in this episode.
Meanwhile Cordelia and Oz are driving past the Factory and Cordy is worrying that Columbian druglords are cutting off Xander parts when Oz smells Willow's fear and shows up. Willow and Xander are making out when they walk in and the disbelief and shock on everyone's face was just too much...Cordy turns, runs, falls through the floor and is pierced by this upturned rusty looking thing that for some reason has absolutely no blood on it 0:-) If she'd really been run through like that wouldn't there have been tons of blood? Oh well - one lapse isn't that bad.
I love the way everyone was so vulnerable and real in this eppie. In the past there had been fear but until a short while ago there had been no fear of mortality. They were becoming cocky. It wasn't until they had to suffer through a real teen aged drama that someting happened.
Angel and Buffy are breaking up and I guess its for the best. I love Angel but now realise they have no reason to be together. Angel with Buffy is merely a shadow. He only stood out once this eppie and that was when he was taunting Spike about Dru's fickleness.
I am in love. Seeing Spike again was wonderful. The fight was great. Everyone is human and Buffy has good SAT scores. Life is good - at least for me 0:-)
Post!!! This episode was too cool to be blase about.
