Dark Cloud

I will say that Dark Cloud does hold a special place in my heart. It was the first game I bought for my PS2 and I don't regret it. For the basic does the graphics although cartoony are good, the sound is overall well done except for the serious lack of voiceover that are in the game. The make sounds if they're hit or fall down, but other than that there is nothing. The gameplay is a little bit different from what I'm use to playing in an RPG. Instead of a turnbased fighting system it goes with this type of action rpg where instead of giving commands you are in control of the character. Also another interesting thing is that instead of you leveling up the weapons are what gain experince and grow stronger. Now here's the problem with that your weapons have a sort of heal meter themselves and if they ever reach zero the weapon breaks and you lose all of the experience you had. Besides the weapons meter you also have a health and thrist meter where if your thrist ever reachs zero is starts to take away from your health. I don't know it just feels like there are too many meters to keep track of. The dungeons are randomly generated which is both a plus and a minus cause you do get new chests and areas to search, but know you have to find the exit again. To finish up the battle part of the game you can play as six characters total, but only one can be played at a time not like a party in other games so you need to remember to change your characters if you want to level them up right. Now the big thing about this game is rebuiling the villages, the story goes that and ancient genie hase been awaken and starts destroying towns. The people and houses were sealed into orbs in the dungeons and you need to collect the orbs and rebuild the villages and the people homes, where once fully completed your gain new items and weapons to continue on with the story. Now though of of this the game was still enjoyable however there was one thing that really bothers me and I can't figure it out. You meet a man that helps you through your journey and one of the helpful things he does is that he will teleport you out of the dungeon but only when it's clear of all monsters, now one of the monsters holds the key to the exit which once used will ask if you want to go to the next dungeon or return to the village. I'm guessing it's for the levels before the boss fights where you need a special item to get to the boss and you won't gain it from the monsters, but still they really should have thought that through a little bit better.

Dark Cloud gets a 3 out of 5.
